Ta-Da! I Did It!!!

I'm so happy to say that the chair slipcover is done.

Here is what it started out like (minus the cushion)
After hours sewing, and seam ripping, and willing my numb brain to focus this is what it looks like now.
I am so happy with how it turned out. Flaws? You bet, but it still makes me happy. My living room looks so much bigger now without that dark green blob of a chair. And the little ruffle on the bottom adds a great element I think. Now I want to start on the couch.

Last night my babies returned home from staying at Grandma and Grandpa's for their spring break. You should see their tans! I should have taken a before and after photo it's that amazing. Sitting next to them my pasty white skin looks downright translucent.

Master Bedroom Spring Fluffing

Spent an enjoyable weekend with the hubby. Did a little movie watching, a little shopping and a little checking up with family.

I have mentioned before that I had been fluffing the master bedroom for spring/summer and today is the day to show it off. I am really happy with how it turned out. I would be thrilled if I had beadboard wall, but that will come in time!
Here is how it started. Lots of red and white for my winter bedroom.
And this is what it looks like now. Green and white with a splash of blue here and there. I love the look. Sorry it is really hard to get a good picture in here, not a lot of room. New artwork on the walls above the bed and newly sewn pillow covers on the bed.
Changed the curtains to this wonderful flower print with all the right colors in it. Added the cute plates above the window. Added some pretty things to both bedside tables. What a difference that made. (don't you just love the ugly gray bed controls - - there so chic!Ha!)
Hung this ironwork in the perfect shade of green over the door leading into the hallway.
I think this I have shown before, but I added a few new things to the top of the cabinet and the dresser.
Added these handy hooks to the side to the dresser. I think this is my favorite improvement in the room. I no longer have to look at my ugly "necessities" sitting on my dresser.
That's it! It looks a little more lived in and I didn't spend more than fifty bucks to spruce it up a bit.
P.S. Hubby gave me the ok to paint the dressers. I'm thinking a distressed white would look cool. But I am not sure. Soon I will be adding some beadboard to the walls and that will get painted white. So what color would you paint the dresser, your suggestions would be VERY helpful! Thanks

Simple Sweet Projects

Good morning!
I am off to a great start this morning. I was able to finish another pillow slipcover project. This time it is for Em, she loves to be fancy so I thought to surprise here with a new fancy pillow for her bed when she comes back from Grandma's house. I love the way it turned out and it is VERY Pink, her favorite color. Hope she likes it.
The second project I actually finished a couple days ago but had not hung them yet. That's what I did today. I have always loved looking at rooms of scrapbookers who displayed their pages in frames on the wall before putting them in books. Always thought that was so nice and wanted to try it myself. So I set about making two mini pages to show off a couple of my favorite pictures of the girls. Nothing fancy or too complicated, just photos and pretty paper. This is what I came up with.
I think they turned out pretty good. Here they are hanging on my awkward wall leading into my kitchen from the dinning room.
Have a great weekend. Planing to head to my mom and dad's this weekend and hoping to visit her wonderful Goodwill store. See you on Monday.

I'm A Sewing Machine

I'm on a roll people! Completed sewing project number 2, which will be a thrill to Jaz. She has been waiting patiently for a couple months now for me to sew a simple pillowcase from some fabric she picked out. The girls is CRAZY about horses and fell in love with this fabric.
A super simple project that took no longer then a half hour. I love simple. (looking at the picture I should have probably turned the fabric, but I don't think it will matter that much).

I've completed two projects now but darn if I haven't added two more. Once I start sewing my mind starts going crazy and before I know it my sewing list is growing not shrinking. What is a poor girl to do?

How Adorable Are These?

I picked these two beauties up last summer. Too. Cute. For Words. It was love at first sight.
I think they are potholders but I am not sure. I planned at the time to frame and hang them in the girls pink and white room. This is the week I'm putting my plan into action. Today I painted a couple old frames and now I am looking for some cute scrapbook paper to use as a backing. I think it is going to turn out super sweet.

Have a great day.

Simple, Sweet Pillows

My sewing week is in full swing and I'm loving every minute of it. Yesterday I worked on pillow slipcovers for my bedroom.
Here is the large body pillow slipcover. (note: I'm not big on having to move a lot of "stuff" to get into bed so I use one large body pillow and one smaller pillow - just enough to dress up the bed but not too much) This slipcover was super easy to make and took no longer than an hour. I didn't dress it up much since I love the fabric. Just simple and basic but makes a BIG difference.
The next slipcover I attempted was with applique. I have never tried this before. Once I figured out how to cut the letters and the heat bond to match it went together very fast. Well, that is until I came to the edging. I tried three different edges. I like the end result but next time I think rounding the corners would look better. All in all I think it turned out great for a first attempt.
Here are both pillows on the bed, cute don't you think. It works great with my summer colors(I've been working on my bedroom redo for the spring/summer and it is almost ready to show it off - coming soon)

Let The Sewing Begin!

It is officially sewing week in my home. I am so excited to pull out my machine and get creative. It has been over a month and I'm getting a little antsy. I have many projects in mind but there are a few I want to make sure I get done this week.
1. pillow slipcovers for my master bedroom
2. living room wing back chair slipcover (just need to finish this)
3. two skirts for the girls
4. start on couch slipcover.

Here are a few pillow slipcovers I have done in the past. Enjoy.

My Living Room Is Ready For Spring

I have spent the morning ironing curtains and am happy to announce that my living room is ready for spring (and so am I). Here is what I started with.
The red striped curtains are for my winter decorating. I really like them but I like to lighten things up in the spring and summer. Notice below my dinning area is looking a little bare. That is because Little Miss Climber is in the house today(you can see the top of her head in the lower right hand corner). Because she is here all chairs, stools and buckets are either placed up on tables and counters or pushes up against the wall a safe distance from the table.
After much ironing, this is what my living room looks like now.

Ahhhhhhh, much more spring like don't you think. I can't wait for it to be warm enough to open the windows and watch the breeze ruffle the curtains.

Here is a close up of the curtains. They are not sheers but almost, they have this lovely stripe that I think is wonderful.
This little guy has been following me around all day. I think he misses the girls already. Hang in there Zebby only a little more than a week to go.Hope you all have a great weekend.

My Babies Are On Spring Break

Yesterday Grandma arrived to whisk my three kiddos to AZ for their spring break. They left this morning and were so excited I am surprised they can walk.
This is probably happening right now.

Have fun Kiddos.

The Artwork Switch-A-Ru

With the first day of spring approaching on Friday I am happily changing the artwork around my home. I love springtime so much and my favorite flower prints are coming out of storage. I've spent the day arranging the rearranging all my favorites. Unfortunately I have discovered that I have no talent whatsoever in this department. Despite my lack of talent I am happy with the outcome since I love the pictures so much.
There is the picture ledge I have in my dinning room. There are only two times a year that I love to decorate it, Christmas and Halloween. The rest of the year it is a constant aggravation for me since I never know what to do with it. This arrangement works ok I think, love all the plates and my flower prints. Still not happy with the lower shelf. Can't seem to get it to look like the image I have in my mind. Oh well, the flowers are pretty anyway.
This picture you saw yesterday but had to show it again because it's my favorite. I think the new bird prints are sweet. The frames I think need to be bigger but I have not found the perfect ones yet, so still working on that.
This is the little table next to my couch in the living room. I need to replace the red table runner but that is a sewing project in the works. Love how this turned out.
Here is a close up.
Here are two closeups of my all-time favorite flowers photos. Both were taken in my mothers garden. She is amazing with flowers. (love the barn in the background and the perfect yellow of the second photo, amazing!)

A Little Easter Decorating

(Warning: long post, I know, but a can't contain my excitement)

The past couple days have been a whirlwind of activity for me as I packed and prepared the girls to go on spring break with grandma and grandpa. Yesterday I completed everything I needed to and had the need to decorate.

I know it is a little early for Easter decorations but I just couldn't decide if I wanted spring decorations or Easter decorations. Since I my spring decorations are still in the works and will blend into my summer decorating, I went ahead with my Easter decorations.

I started with my hutch. Adding bunnies, eggs and birds. I really like how it turned out.
Here is a closer view. I've noticed in the pictures it seems a little cluttered for my taste but in real life it seems much better, and I like the way it turned out.
Added some paper eggs that I painted, a little leftover basket grass from last year and a bunny, very cute I think.
Here are my little birdhouses from a previous post. I liked it but thought it needed some dimension, so I lifted a couple up on a stack of CD cased wrapped in pretty paper(couldn't find a book the right size). I think it turned out ok. Would love to have a sign behind the birdhouses but have not found the right one yet.
This shelf I love. Love the stack of books with the birdhouse on top and love, love, love the bird print. I purchased a digital brush kit from Designer Digitals, changed the color, printed it out, added some pretty paper and ta-taaaa a cute little spring delight.
Here is a close up. Don't you just love it.
To my dinning table I added a urn filled with more leftover basket grass and some adorable spotted eggs I picked up at JoAnne's. Placed that on a plastic vinyl place mat I fell in love with also from JoAnnes.
Here is a close up. I think I need to add a tray under the urn or something. It seems a little unfinished to me but I haven't come up with the solution yet so it will have to work for now.

In the living room I added these bird prints and these lovely "fake" flowers. I just love the color and am trying to add it around the house for spring. Isn't it great! In the kitchen I added this cute tree and bunny and lots of jelly beans (my favorite) and I think it adds just a touch of Easter to the room.
So there you go, my house decorated for Easter. Glad it is done.

Spring Decorating

Decorating for spring seems to be a slow process for me this year. Today I added this cute bird print to my hutch. I still have a lot of decorating to do but it seems a little each day is working for me. It's fun to watch the house change bit by bit.

To help myself get organized I have made a list of what I would like to accomplish this week. Thought I would share it to keep me motivated.

1. dig out Easter decorations and spread the Easter joy

2. wash, iron and hang summer curtains in living room

3. sew pillow cases and pillow slipcovers for master bedroom

4. wash, iron and hang summer curtains in master bedroom

5. finish two framed picture projects

6. decorate display shelf in living room.

7. wash clothes and pack them up of kids spring break trip.

8. finish chair slipcover for living room.

Not sure how much of this I will be able to do this week, the kiddos are going to visit grandma and grandpa in Arizona and will be leaving on Wednesday. I am hoping to get them all packed up today so tomorrow I can concentrate on the house. Wish me luck.

Bittie Bird

I love this type of decorating.

One cute fluted bowl + one fake bird nest + one cute bird = One cute little display
