Glitter Houses

Ms. J and I are not feeling well today. A trip to the doctor, and another trip to Target to pick up medication was in order.

So what's a Christmas crazed woman to do while twiddling her thumbs waiting on prescriptions?

Well, drag her aching body to the Christmas section, of course!

Tucked in between tinsel trees and light up reindeer were. . . .
GLITTER HOUSES!

I almost stopped breathing for a second and gave Ms. J a fright and I was so excited. The past couple years I have been obsessed with glitter houses and bottle brush trees. I'm a proud owner of two Season of Canon Falls glitter house tree ornaments but I have never had a "real" glitter house - -
Until today.

Of the five or six different styles and colors I picked this one. . . Isn't she beautiful? And she lights up also! Batteries operated so no messy cords.
Love, Love Love My Glitter House.

Thrifty Finds

This past weekend I was able to do a little fun shopping at my favorite secondhand store, Unique. Here's what I found
Also picked up this adorable mini-rocking chair for Ms. Z's doll. I'm not digging the color so I'm hoping she'll let me paint it. At the Dollar Tree I found this frame.
It's actually wood and is slightly distressed, so of course I picked up four.
Until tomorrow, Robin.

Bathroom Reveal

I am so happy to show you my newly updated basement bathroom. I am so excited to show it off, it turned out better than I imagined - it's now my favorite room of the house.
Drum Roll Please . . .

From Scary and Boring . . .
To Bright and Cheerful . . .
It now has just the right hint of cottage charm and modern farmhouse that I was hoping to for. (I don't know why the floor is looking so dark - it is much lighter in person)
Before:After: Here is the vanity and mirror before:

And afterI painted the vanity white and replaced the hardware.

Also gave the mirror a quick coat of white paint.

Here's a better view of the light fixture Mr. J installed for me. No more ugly runway lights - Glory Hallelujah!
Doorway before:
And after with a freshly painted door and trim.
Here's another view long wall.

And finally a closeup of the cute little bench I made and distressed.

I still have a few things I would like to do which will have to wait awhile. I'd like to replace the faucet and mirror. I'm also on the look out for a large blue and white striped rug within by budget.
I love, love, love the rooms new look, hope you do too!
Until tomorrow. Robin

Merry Christams and Happy Birthday To Me!

My wonderful Mr. J had my early Christmas and Birthday present delivered this weekend.

I'm so EXCITED!!!!!
It replaces this.

This fridge does it job just fine but it is LOUD! It's been loud for a least two years but in the past two weeks it has become so loud that people coming into the house ask, "what's that noise". It's so bad it wakes me up during the night when it kicks on! And on Friday I actually heard it in the laundry room - in the farthest corner of the house DOWNSTAIRS.... needless to say I dreamed of a new one.

Meet my love! She needs a buffing (later today) but isn't she BEAUTIFUL!

Here's the freezer(sorry for some reason I can't get the photo to flip)

Wall Art

Want to know a secret? . . .

wall art and I don't get along!

Were locked in a constant battle of good vs. evil.
Too little vs. too much.
Cool vs. What was I thinking?

My idea of Good.

A gathering of simple photos, all lined up in a row. Ahhhh! perfect.

My idea of Evil.

Holy Cow On A Fence!

What do I look at first?

This is way, way too much for me.

With that being said, this morning I set out to give my room a mini-face lift. I want to create something that was simple yet looked somewhat sophisticated. This is what I came up with.

I cut some cardstock, inked the edges, added a rub-on then framed it up.

I think it turned out ok, what do you think?

Thanksgiving Decorating

This year I have the pleasure of hosting Thanksgiving dinner at my home. Normally I don't do much in terms of decorating for Thanksgiving but this year I figured we needed to have a little something festive for the occasion.

After thinking about it and digging around in my fall decorating box I pulled out my "thankful" cards, some branches of leaves and a few berries.

Here's what I came up with.

Here's what it looks like from across the room.

The leaf branches are a bit on the orange side which is a big problem for me since it's not one of my favorite colors, but it will have to do. While at Michael's I looked and looked, taking entirely way to long picking out the stems with the least amount of orange on them. Why, oh why does it seem like all fall decorations have to be brown, yucky yellow or bright orange? I don't get it. What about red? It's a fall color too, right? Sorry, enough of my ranting - - I am happy to have been able to find something with a bit of red in it. Maybe next year the stores will have more red for me to choose from - -

then I'll really be THANKFUL!

DIY Bench

I'm finally posting again. Sorry it has been so long. Life has become crazy busy around here lately and every free moment I have been working on my bathroom redo. The room is almost ready to show off, maybe tomorrow.
In the mean time I thought you might like to take a gander at the little bench I built to us in the bathroom.
I used a 8 foot 1X12, a scrap of 1X10 and two 1X4's. I cut the the wood to it's appropriate size and using wood screws, attached them all together. Next I primed and gave it a base coat of white followed by a beautiful blue. Here she is. Next I took my sander out and gave it a good sanding to make the base coat come through the top coat. And finally I wiped on two coats of Wipe On Poly.

Here's the finished project. Adorable don't you think?

Dog Silhouettes

Lately, dog silhouettes have been popping up everywhere and I am fascinated. I feel a new obsession coming on.
Take a look at these photo's from Midwest Living. Love all the red and white but take a closer look. Did you spot the stockings hanging from the mantel. ADORABLE!Here's another lovely silhouette, this time on a pillow. And did you see the dog statues? I think I'll need some of those too!
And finally, I am in love with this room. Love the shelf with it's chunky corbel's. Love the bed frame - boy could I use one of those. Love the yellow bedspread with the red and white quilt and linens piled on. And last but not least, the pillows - - another dog silhouettes and a cute snowflake, love them both.
So what do you think? Am I crazy or should I let my new fascination blossom into an obsession?

Whoopsie-Doo's Birthday

A happy little Ms. Z planned and celebrated a birthday celebration for her favorite little friend. The list maker in me was so proud when she had me write a list of all she needed from the store to make the perfect birthday celebration.

Bathroom Update

It's been almost a week since my last post! What! I have no idea where the time went but I know I've been busy. Sick kids, a trip to my parents and working on the bathroom has eaten up all my spare time.

I can show you a little of the bathroom although it's not very exciting. Here is the beadboard and trim installed on the walls. I have it taped off to begin painting hopefully tomorrow.

Until tomorrow. Robin
