It’s good to be home after spending a lovely time in Arizona with grandma and grandpa. The kiddos were spoiled rotten and had a fabulous time. Mom and dad were treated to lots of down time and relaxation. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Faded Photos
This past weekend I went to visit my parents and we wound up looking through some old photos. One of my favorite pasttimes. Each time new stories come out and my imagination starts running.
One picture held my interest longer than the others. It's a photo taken in 1920 of a grade-school class in a one room schoolhouse. My grandfather was in the photo. Over the years I've heard many stories about this schoolhouse, it's teachers and funny things that happend. It just so happens that my own father attended the same schoolhouse for his first couple years of school. I'm intrigued!
Have a great day.

A Yummy Treat!
Have you been down the candle aisle at Target lately?
Have you seen this candle?
The container is lovely and fits perfectly into my decor.
Plus it comes in many yummy scents.
I pick up this one.
Oh My, it smells so good.
Now I can have a cupcake(or two) without the calories!
Have a great day,
Robin

Tutorial: Bathroom Bench
A few people have asked to know how to build the bench I made for my bathroom so I thought I would give a short tutorial.
Sorry I didn't take any pictures while building but I think I can walk you through the steps and give you cutting dimensons I used.
Here's the bench were working on.
Materials List
1 - 1X12X6 ft pine board (legs and top of bench)
1 - 1X10X3 ft (shelf)
2 - 1X4X4 ft (leg supports)
wood screws or nails
level
Step 1: Cut wood to size
Take the 1X12 and cut two lengths to 17". These will be your two legs. Cut the remaining 1X12 to 36". This is your bench top.
Take your 1X10 and cut it 29 1/2" long. This is your shelf.
Take your two 1X4's and cut each to 29 1/2" long. These are your leg supports.
Step 2: Cut Decorative Details
For this step I used a jigsaw.
For the leg supports, I drew a cutting guide onto the wood with a pencil, then cut it out using the jigsaw.
For the legs, using a small plate as a guide I drew a half circle at the bottom of the leg. Once again using the jigsaw to cut it out.
Step 3: Assemble the legs and leg supports
Now for the fun part - - putting it all together.
Start by laying out the leg supports and legs upside down(so the detail cutting is facing up), making sure they all line up.
Next attach the leg supports to the legs using wood screws, making sure to pre-drill your holes. I attached mine by driving the screw through the leg into the leg supports from the outside.
Attach the other leg in the same way.
Step 4: Attach Shelf
Keeping the bench upside down, mark 1 inch down from the top of the leg circle. This is going to be where you attach the shelf. At this point you can measure in from both sides of the legs to center the shelf - or - you can just eye-ball it like I did.
Once again pre-drill your hole from the outside of the leg into the shelf. Attach with screws.
Once again pre-drill your hole from the outside of the leg into the shelf. Attach with screws.
Before attaching the other side of the shelf in the same way, make sure it's level and attach.
Step 5: Attach Top
Flip the bench right-side-up. Center the top onto the legs. Attach by screwing from the top down into the legs (I used two on each leg), and from the top down into the leg supports (I used one on each side)
Step 6: Paint
Fill screw hole with wood filler if you would like then paint. I primed with a white and used a top coat of blue. Next I distressed it by sanding it down to make the white show through. Finished up with a couple coat of polly and I'm done!
So Easy! Now go build on for yourself!

The Beginning Of A Slipcover
I've been keeping myself out of trouble by doing this . . .

A sofa slipcover!
I'm so excited to finally be working on it. I've been talking about it FOREVER.
So far it's going very well. At this point, I think all the hard parts done. I'm hoping to have it finished by mid week next week. Then I can show it off.

Help In The Kitchen
The window behind my kichen sink needed some help. The afternoon sun coming in is BLINDING to say the least. We avoid the whole kichen from 1 to 5.
In the past I've tried mini-blinds (yuck!), a roller shade (broke within 6 months- plus was a pain to roll down) and cafe curtains(couldn't stand how they hung and cluttered up the display area I had).
Nothing seemed to work.
Last week I broke down and went to Menards to find something.
Anything!
I came home with a cellular shade in white.
Installing and shortening the length just about did-me-in. You'd think I was a salior - - it was that bad!
But it's all good now - I'm back to normal. I love how they still let light in and gives the room a cheerful glow without the glare of sunshine in your eyes.
I added a dishcloth valance I made a while back.
And the best part - - It completly disapears behind the valance!
(sorry about the cluttered photo - - working on a few changes around the kitchen and this is the only kid free zone to be found)

A Spring-Like Day
It feels like spring today.
The sun is shinning brightly.
The birds are chirping.
The air is warm.
To celebrate the day, I picked up some pink tulips for my kitchen.
So beautiful. So cheerful.
Have a great day,
Robin

Introducing Fluffy
On Friday night the girls and I were restless, so we piled into the car and headed for Target to take a look around. We had such fun! Shopping is fun when your not stressed out to hurry, hurry, hurry!
We took a good hour and half just looking around and having fun together.
I even found something to take home that I am over the moon happy about.
For a long - long time I have been looking for a dog statue, without much luck.
Look what they had in the garden section!
OH!
MY!
GOODNESS!
I'M. IN. LOVE!
I've named her Fluffy, silly I know, but I was in a silly mood.
The girls like Fluffy too! They keep moving her around the house and I'm getting a great workout as I wander around the house looking for Fluffy in what has become a live version of I Spy! I'll find her, mutter under my breath something about darn kids, replace Fluffy to my spot of choice and the next time I turn around - - FLUFFY's GONE - AGAIN!
I'm hoping this won't last long. Fluffy and I have some decorating to do.
Have a great day,
Robin
