Obsessed With . . .

Sideboards!

Ok! maybe not sideboards exactly, maybe side-dressers would be a better description.

Lately I've decided that I have the perfect place for one and I can't stop thinking/dreaming about it.

I've rounded up a few examples of what I'm looking for.

(Country Living)

(Southern Living)

(Blossoming Visions)

Pretty right!  And so functional.

Do you like this look too!
Or maybe your already a proud owner.  I sure would like to know how you like it and if you think it's something to keep looking for or if you think I should let the dream go.

Wishing you all a snappy day,
Robin

The Great Tree Fiasco . . .

Bright and early Friday morning I decided to tackle the Christmas tree part of my Holiday decor.

For years I've used a fake tree, loving the convenience and cost effectiveness.  Sadly, two years ago our poor plastic tree stand broke and I haven't used the tree since.  A few weeks back and I was happy to discover a replacement tree stand at Walmart.  Yipeeee!

Armed with my newly purchased tree stand, I searched high and low into all my homes nooks and crannies only to discover I was missing a tree!

What!

Where in the heck did I stash it!

Then it hit me . . .

Last spring during one of my crazed get-all-this-junk-out-of-my-house moments, I carried that poor tree to the curb for the nice dump truck to pick up!

Ummm, O.K, time for plan "B".

The girls and I jumped into the trusty mini-van and headed out to find a place to buy a real tree!

An hour later, we had one picked out and the nice Tree Farm Guys had it all ready to load up for me.

Problem was, they only took cash or check.
I had neither with me!

Back to the mini-van to search for an ATM.

Forty-five minutes later the girls and I arrive home with the tree.

Suddenly,
my 7 foot tree seems more like 25 feet as I try to wrestle it off the roof of the mini-van and up a flight of stairs into the living room.

I thought that would be the hard part - - but Oh No,  next came attaching the tree stand.

Trying to balance a now seemingly 50 foot frozen tree in a stand with one hand, while desperately trying to screw the little things into the tree stump with the other hand is not a task for the faint hearted.

A good half hour later with frozen, sap covered hands the tree was up - -  slightly leaning but still standing.

LUNCH TIME!
Back to the mini-van.  This time in search of some food.  Along the way we took bets on whether the tree would still be standing when we arrived back home!

It was, I lost that bet but I did a little happy dance anyway.

Next up, ornaments and lights!  Yippee, the fun part.

After digging all the boxes out and sorting through everything I discovered I didn't have any working tree lights!

C O M E    O N!!!!!!!!

It's now 8:30 at night and were headed to the store for tree lights.

By 10:30 the tree decorated and I was exhausted!

What a Fiasco!

Can you see why I like fake trees!

Want to see my poor tree?  Here she is.

The girls have free reign on the tree decorating.  I let them go crazy.  Plus we have little ones at our house during the week who are fascinated with the ornaments.  That is why every things hanging way up high!

For tree lights I pick up some large scaled LED lights in cool white.  I have to say I'm not liking them AT ALL.  Maybe I would like them better if I had picked up the warm white color or if I had chosen the smaller size.

The bulbs themselves are very pretty, they look like cut crystal.

I was hoping I would like them.  Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Sorry this was such a long post.  I sure hope I didn't bore you to tears.  But I have to say I feel much better now that I've talked about that darn tree.  Hope you understand...

Let The Glittering Begin . . .

Do you remember this?

It now looks like this!

I made it as a gift for my mother.

Sure, this sweet little church is not your typical color.

Mom's adding turquoise to her holiday decor this year.

I thought it could help a bit.

Mom likes it.

I like it.

How about you?

Watch Out . . . .

It's Tinsel Tossing Time!

I don't know about you but the month of November seemed to have been the
 LONGEST MONTH EVER!

Might have been that I wouldn't allow myself to do any decorating until after Thanksgiving - -

or the fact that I've become obsessed with Christmas decorations.

Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter anymore.

It's officially the Holiday Season in my house and I'm in full decorating mode!

You'd better watch out and keep moving if you happen to stop by . . .

I can't promise you won't get a little Holly Jolly on ya!

It's A Sickness Really . . .

I  can't stop thinking about Christmas decorations!

I promised myself I'd be good and not dig out the decorations until AFTER Thanksgiving.

Man, am I having a hard time keeping this promise!

It was all going just fine until I happened to pick up this magazine while I was standing in the checkout lane.

Once I picked it up . . . N.O.  W.A.Y. was I putting it down.

Two days until I can officially start decorating and I've gone through that darn magazine at least ten times! My mind is filled to the brim with inspiration.

I go to bed thinking of Holiday decorations . . . .

and

. . . I wake up thinking of Holiday decorations!

A. Sickness. I. Tell. You!

Has anyone else caught this particular bug?

p.s.  I just couldn't help myself . . . I made this little church today . . . I still need to glitter her up . . . technically it's a gift for my mom . . . she'll be coming over for Thanksgiving . . . so it doesn't count - right?

Tutorial: Turkey Placecard

Yesterday I promised to show you how I made the placecards for my Thanksgiving table.

Supply List

glue gun and glue
ribbon
crepe paper
cardstock
scalloped circle punch
book pages

In order to show you how I made the pacecard I've broke it down into three sections.

the ribbon,
the top layer,
the bottom layer

OK, here we go. . . .

The ribbon

The top layer
The bottom layer

Glue top layer to bottom layer . . .

That's it.  Very easy and I love the look.

Until tomorrow,
Robin

Dare to . . . Entertain!

Kim from NewlyWoodwards is hosting her blog party again this week and I'm joining in!

Dare to DIY

I've cheated a bit by only setting up one place setting,

those pesky kids wouldn't allow a whole table setting ALL WEEK LONG!

No matter, let's get to it.

I  like keep things very simple.

I try not to fill up the table with lots of stuff in the middle since once all the tableware is placed around and the food brought in it fills up fast.  Plus I dislike fighting with the decorations when the serious business of eating begins - Ha Ha!

I'll add my favorite candelabra, a few votive candles and that's about it to the middle of the table.

This year I've added a few faux leaves around the base of the candelabra which adds a nice touch of fall and ties in with my Thanksgiving shelves.

Instead of centerpieces, I like to focus on the placecards.

They can be so fun and festive.  Plus they are small and don't get in the way.

Continuing with my turkey silhouette theme, I made a rosette with a turkey in the middle.

I just love them.

I also quickly sewed together a few extra napkins with sweet ruffly edges.

I love the simple classic look the tablesetting has.

Instead of fighting for space at the table we will all be able to focus on what's really important this Thanksgiving..

the people gathered around the table.

Until tomorrow,

Robin

p.s. tomorrow I'll have a tutorial up showing how I made the placecards

I'm Ready For Thanksgiving!

Yeap!

Bring on the turkey!

I'm ready.

Yesterday,
Ms. Z and I crafted our little hearts out making placecards and finishing up the Thanksgiving decorations.

The placecards turned out so cute!  But I can't show you yet - - not until new week!
(if you liked my turkey silhouette on my Thanksgiving shelf your going to LOVE the placecards)

But I can show you my newly decorated hutch.

I tried to keep it all very simple . . .

. . .by using some of the same elements as my Thanksgiving shelf.

Another turkey silhouette - - just couldn't help myself!

Some tarnished silver and a few favorites from my white collection.

Some shredded book pages to add some texture.

And a few items like clocks and books just because I think they are pretty!

How about you?
Are you all set for Turkey Day?

Until tomorrow,
Robin

Lovely Candles

This time of year I'm surely not the only one digging out candles and enjoying the warm,  cozy feeling they give a room.  Not to mention their scent.

With small children around I'm always VERY careful and tend not to use them very often.

That is until I discovered flameless candles!

I've talked about these before but I recently picked up a few more since I love them so much.

Most have a vanilla scent, which is perfect for me.

I picked this package up at Target in the Christmas department for $15 and guess what!

They have timers!
You set the switch to timed and it comes on at the same time every day.  Automatically turning themselves off after four hours!

What more could a busy, stressed out mommy need!
(other than an hour of complete silence and chocolate - - lots of chocolate)

I can't tell you how excited I am about these.

For now I have them in my hutch until I find the perfect place for them.

After a long day and gruelling workout at the gym I come home to flickering candlelight and the scent of vanilla . . .

. . . all with no worries!

until tomorrow,
Robin
