Last Minute Halloween Fluffing
Like many of you I'm sure, this past weekend was spent getting a few last minute items on the Halloween to-do list accomplished.
Since there has been quite the uproar by the little people in the house about our lack of spooky stuff for Halloween I dug out last years stuff and quickly put together a spooky shelf.
Nothing fancy, just a feather wreath, black and white do-da'ds , skulls and mice.
Now the little people can't complain, but they can get a wee bit freaked out by mice on the ledge - - hee, heeeee. (they look surprisingly real out of the corner of your eye as your passing by - with more than one yelp to prove it!)
I was even feeling a little crafty this weekend and decided to try my hand at making a trio of battery operated orange plastic pumpkins fit a little better into my decor.
After a couple quick coats of white paint, I plugged in the hot glue gun and wrapped / glued some twine to the steams.
I love how they tuned out.
I just can't help but grin a little when I walk by.
Have a great day,
Robin

A Hankering For: Farm Animals
My obsession with Pinterest is getting out of control. I have so many projects and idea's swimming around in my head with no real outlet for them. To help myself out, I thought it would be fun to highlight a few of my favorite things found on Pinterest with a series of posts here at Happy at Home. Each week I will share favorite photos/ideas found on Pinterest pertaining to a certain topic I'm currently obsessing over. Sounds fun right? Let's get started.
Introducing . . . .
A Hankering For . . . Farm Animals!
What is more adorable than farm animals. I have so many favorites.
On my dream farm I would have a whole bunch of these adorable fellows. . . .

I'm sure I'd have a garden and how lovely to have a group of feathered friends to follow me around as I play in the dirt.

If you've been around my blog much the past year you know how much I like cows. Of course my farm would have a herd of these cuties!

I've always thought these fluffy beauties would be fun to have around too.

If I'm going to have sheep, why not a few adorable goats too!

With all these animals running around the farm, we're sure to have quite a few buildings to maintain.
Which makes me think a dozen or so of these furry helper are a must.

And finally, with all the work needed to keep my animals well tended to I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a faithful side-kick to help me out!

I know my dream farm is years away, but I can hope right. In the meantime I'm playing with the idea of creating a gallery wall in my family room. I'd call it the "dream wall", where I'd highlight adorable, artful photography of farm animals. What do you think? I leaning more and more towards YES!
Hope you've enjoyed today's post. Would love to here what you think about the post it's self and about the series idea.
Talk to you soon,
Robin

Autumn In The Kitchen
A few Autumn touches have been added to the kitchen.
Nothing major, just quick and easy switch-up's.
Nothing major, just quick and easy switch-up's.
On the small window counter above the sink I added a distressed wood tray filled with mini pumpkins from the garden and leaves from the tree in the front yard.
Of course I added a lantern. This one is from Ikea which I think they still sell.
I love to light it at dusk and watch how it instantly makes the kitchen so cozy. Almost every night after I'm done cleaning up dinner remains I'll light the candle, turn off the lights and enjoy the view.
Pumpkins look very pretty by candlelight!
On the other side of the kitchen, I've added a few touches of Autumn to the small shelf I have hanging over "my office".
A collection of white pitchers and pumpkins seem like a perfect mix don't you think?
Above the shelf, I've added a few of my favorite photos of the girls from past Halloweens to the chicken wire frame. I simply printed them in black and white unto white cardstock, cut them out and tucked them into the chicken wire.
I have to say I love this display. It brings back so many good memories and reminds me to take more photos this Halloween.
Enjoy your day,
Robin

The Autumn Hutch
Are you getting tired of looking at my Autumn decor? Only a couple more post and I'll be done - promise!
I'm just so happy with this years results it's crazy. So glad I didn't go the "spooky" route, this is much more me.
Of all the simple things I've done around the house to change things up for Autumn, I have to admit the hutch turned out to be my favorite. Last Thanksgiving I did something similar and love it so much I found it hard to take it down to start decorating for Christmas. I thought I would try to recreate it this year.
I tried to focus on three things: ironstone, silver and grapevine. I have to say I'm loving the results even more than last years effort.
On top of the hutch, I arranged my collection of grapevine sphere's around a swag of berries.
The top two shelves I've added my collection of vintage books. I love displaying them with the pages showing, it adds such a great texture to the hutch.
I'm not sure why but I love this photo, so of course I had to throw it into the mix. I think it's the simplicity that makes me love it so much.
Working or way down the hutch, the next shelf holds a grouping of items that I think work well together. A distressed frame, a vintage clock and of course a lantern (typical me, LOL)
And of course irornstone, a pumpkin and a single leaf.
On the other side of the hutch I placed a distressed wood box filled with leaves, berries and pumpkins.
Moving on to my favorite set of shelves near the bottom I added a distressed frame, some ironstone and some silver.
I love the mix of textures and colors.
And I serisously love tiny, baby white pumpkins.
Another favorite photo which I have no words for other than . . . pretty . . . me like.
Below I've placed my kitchen scale with some pumpkins and this pretty Halloween mask that I picked up at Target. Am I the only one that is loving the comeback of maskes? I think they are so fun.
Opposite the previous self with the grapevine wreath I repeated the idea of the distressed frame with the wreath layered in front of it. I used more ironstone dished, a pretty pedestle sugar dish and flanked it with two silver gravy boats which I'm crazy about.
Another photo that I love, I just can't get enough of the layered look. Which is weird since I'm normally a "just a couple things or it will look to cluttered" sort of girl.
And finally to finish off the hutch, a touch of simplicity. You can't get more simple than a white bowl and a pumpkin. Simple? . . .yes. Stylish? . . . .you bet!
Hope you have a lovely day,
Robin

The Autumn Living Room
Maybe I've said this too much, but I absolutely love the wall color in my Living Room. Since changing my decor for Autumn it's reinforced my love for bright neutral spaces. I adore how colors just pop out at you. It makes me feel very happy.
I wanted to make the room seem cozy, yet bright and cheerful.
In keeping with this years theme, I kept things simple and "natural". Reds, orange, and touches of brown against the white walls warmed the space up but still gave me the bright open feeling which I love.
The white slip covered side chairs were giving a quick update with a plaid throw blanket, folded and place on the chair.
Texture was added with grapevine wreaths and leaf branches.
With my bumper crop of mini pumpkins from the garden I've added bowl of them all over the house.
Lanterns are a must for me almost every season, but much more come the cooler months. A drop cloth runner and a few pumpkins is all I added to the coffee table.
The photo ledge was given a makeover by adding as much silver from my collection as I thought it needed - - which is alot it looks like! LOL!
Pumpkins and grapevine wreaths are just made to go with silver if you ask me. I think it is an amazing combo.
Oh Look, another lantern! Can you see how crazy I am about them?
The small autumn painting I picked up a couple years ago and sad to say have never used it until now. I love how it looks alongside the pumpkin filled silver pedestal.
The bottom picture ledge is filled mostly with my favorite silver pieces. A silver water pitcher, two silver trays and various small silver pieces. Most are filled with berry branches, pumpkins or flowers to add pops of color.
I just love how the bright colors pop against the silver and the white walls.
Okay . . . yep . . . It's official. I'm loving the look.
How about you?

Magazine Love: Country Home
Want to know a good way to embarrass your pre-teen?
I have a simple 5 Step System.
Step 1: Take said pre-teen to Barnes &Noble
Step 2: Hang out in the magazine section til pre-teen starts to turn into a zombie
Step 3: Spy a crisp new copy of this magazine . . .
Step 4: Snatch said magazine off the self with glee and a "OMG" look on your face.
Step 5: Commence jumping up and down - - squealing - - until you warrant a "what the heck" look from passing book store patrons.
100% pre-teen embarrassment guaranteed
Give it a try!
Seriously, I am so excited about this magazine I woke up early this morning to get my work done in hope that I will be able to spend the whole afternoon with just my new Country Home Magazine. From the few quick glances I've allowed myself it looks amazing!
I wish they would bring this magazine back full time instead of just special issues. It's always been a favorite of my and lately Country Living just isn't doing it for me. Too much "filler" for my taste.
Hope you all have a great day,
Robin
