Huh!

Have you ever put together a display for your home and once complete your unable to figure out whether you actually like it or not?

That's the position I'm in right now with the display on my dinning room desk.

There are parts that I love.

Like the farm sign . . .

The small jello molds with tea lights in them . . .

The distressed platform . . .

The urn with a lighted grapevine sphere.
Which is amazing if your missing the glow of your Christmas tree lights - - which I was.

(Let me just say here that I love, love, love lamp timers.  Have you ever tried them?  I picked up a few at Target last year and I used them all over the house.  I have the simple dial type and they work great.  Just set the timer, plug in your lamp, or in this case grapevine sphere, and plug it into your outlet.  I use them for lamps in our high traffic area's for a couple hours each night since the kids never seem to turn off lights.  I've found that if a light is already on they won't turn on more and then forget about it.  With the lamp timers now I don't have to make nightly rounds of the house to turn everything off!)

It's the buckets filled with branches I just can't seem to figure out if I like or not.  I know I like the buckets -- they are a little dinged up and rusty, which I love.

Maybe it's to much brown.  A color I normally go to great lengths to avoid.

Maybe it's too much texture.

Huh!

That's all I have to say about it.

Don't hate it enough to change it.

So I guess that says something.

What do you think?

  1. I think it all looks lovely together! I really love that sign! I will definitely have to look into lamp timers...I have the same problem with everyone turning on every light in the house so that seems like the perfect solution!

  2. I think it looks great. It has kind of a stark wintry feel to it. I love that it is kind of tone on tone so is soothing to the eyes. I have used those lamp timers, too. They're great-xo Diana

  3. New to viewing your blog, but I love the collection you have there. Very pleasing. I might add a spot of soft color like spraying the branches. What softened color would go nicely with the rest of your decor in the room?

  5. I think they look very wintery in a good sort of way. So I vote to keep them. I'm missing the Christmas tree lights too, so I may have to get me a glowing orb or something. I do have a battery operated candle that is on a timer that I love. Because if it was up to me, I'd never remember to turn it off when I go to bed and I'd be going through batteries left and right.

  6. You asked what I think, so I will be honest. But in a constructive way. I think it is to perfect, to symmetrical, Take the stars down and put the two buckets on the same side at different levels. Maybe add a bit of color. It is pretty. Lizzie

  7. I love it all. I am afraid I am horrible at this kind of thing, because whenever I arrange my own vignettes I fiddle, fiddle, fiddle. Sometimes I will be across the room and have to get up and change something! Decorating the Christmas tree is what drives me nuts the most!lol!

  8. I like it Robin, I love the texture and the fact that it's balanced. If you don't like it I know you will come up with something that looks even better. But for now, it looks great!

  9. I think it is beautiful, Robin...love the soft glow of the lights! Maybe try grabbing another bundle of branches and painting them white, and see if the brown really is what's bugging you? Your designs are always well balanced...I am attracted to that, too!

  11. Hi Robin! I like your vignette, especially the sign! Everything looks well balanced and flows together. Just a thought, it might not even make that be of a difference, but maybe you can try shifting the items on the desk a little more toward the center instead of up against the back. Blessings, Tammy

  12. Hi Robin
    Thanks for your lovely comment.
I love the signs, it's my obsession and your sign looks absolutely divine.
Sometimes I also struggle with decorating and adding some greenery always helps. I would have added to the twigs some flowers, tulips or roses, or any kind of flowers you like. Renata

  13. I really like all the elements you've used in this vignette. Maybe if you filled your buckets with something that provided more contrast, you would like it better??

  14. I think it looks lovely, you might try adding a runner under the distressed shelf to add some softness that fabric gives. Maybe a light linen type fabric or even burlap. Something with a slight ruffle on each end hanging off the edges. Yep I think that would finish the look.

  15. Robin,
I love it just the way it is. I am kinda a white and neutral girl so I like it. I love that Springbrook Farms sign. That is such a great focal point I don't think you need anymore distraction to the eye. I agree with Anne live with it for awhile and see what you think.

  16. The buckets with the branches draw your eye up to the sign and vice versa. A great connector! But if you find that it nags at you each time you pass by it, then make a change. And thanks for the tip on the lamp timers!
