Fun Finds - The Christmas Addtion

It's been a while since I've had a Fun Finds post.  I have been finding so many Christmas themed items lately I thought a Christmas addition Fun Finds was in order.

Lets get started with this adorable truck from Target.  I like it's vintage feel.

I was shocked and pleased at the same time to find two vintage deer at the thrift store.  I had a work hard at stopping myself from doing a happy dance right in the store.

Aren't they adorable!

And speaking of deer, this silver deer tassel was found the next time I went to the thrift store.  I think it's adds a nice touch to the grapevine wreath.

This next item may seem ugly to some I'm sure but it makes me smile.

So do these vintage candles.  Cute right!

I was so happy to find this vintage candle surround too!  Again, ugly to some, but not to me.  After the deer, it's my favorite find of the season.

Of course I couldn't pass up some vintage Shiny Brights.  I found quite a few this year.

My favorite are the red ones of course!

But then there are the blue ones that are oh so pretty too!  Don't you just love the bell shaped ones?

A shelf in the basement received quite a few new vintage items this year.  The Santa boat filled with wonderful plastic filler, the Santa figurine and the two small deer.  The deer standing up is missing a leg but that's ok, I still love him.

And finally, this sweet white porcelain basket filled with vintage trimmings was too cute to pass up.

Oh My!
Almost forgot to add Santa to the list.
Found him back in early November you may remember.  He's been cheerfully lite up in the front yard since December first.  The my kiddos aren't very impressed but my seven year old nephew sure is.  He is all excited every time he sees Santa in the front yard.

I am so happy to have found so many wonderful vintage items for Christmas this month.

Have you had any luck?

Handmade Christmas Decor Roundup

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the crafting!

I look forward to it all year long and start planning for it well in advance of December first.

Creating tiny treasures to spread cheer throughout my home is such an enjoyable way to spend my time on chilly December days.  Plus I feel it adds such a wonderful personality to my home.

I thought it would be fun to highlight only handmade creations since it seems to me I've added quite a few things this year . . .  hence, today's post.

Lets start in the kitchen and the adorable red and white stockings.
You can find a tutorial for them here.

The first project of the season was these fun beaded ornaments.  The girls and I had so much fun with these and we made more than we probably should have - - it was hard to stop.  You'll find a tutorial for them here if you'd like.

A hand painted sign was also added to the mix.

For the living room I made some wood star cut outs but simply cutting out a star shape from scrap 1X6's.  I then painted and distressed them.

A pretty medallion crafted from a book page, tinsel pipe cleaners, ribbon and a scrapbook sticker adds a nice touch to a lantern.

I also made some homemade artwork crafted from fabric, paint and bakers twine.  Love how this one turned out.

To continue the star theme I have going, scrapbook paper was cut, inked and glued together to make another piece of homemade artwork.  The red crochet circle in the middle is a scrapbook sticker and adds a nice pop of red.

A simple grouping a rolled sheet music was a very quick and easy project.

I rolled the sheet music into scrolls, hot gluing the back sides to hold them together.  Then I stacked them up and added a little glue to hold the stack together as I added each layer.  To add some sparkle, I wrapped the whole think in ribbon, added a bow and then hot glued a wood star shape with silver glitter to the middle of the bow.

Simplest project ever!  Takes like ten minutes tops!  Looks pretty good in a display too!

A fold book page wreath was added to the chalkboard in the dinning room.  I have a tutorial on how to make it here.

In the bedroom a book page tree adds a little charm to the bedside table.
I have a tutorial of it here if you'd like.

Here's another quick and easy project.
A vintage Christmas graphic was place on top of a piece of scrapbook card stock.  Tinsel pipe cleaners were glued around the edges of the graphic and then the whole thing was hung on the wall with the help of a vintage clothes hanger.  Took a whole five minutes to finish this one - not that is simple.

To decorate the table on Christmas day, I made simple place cards from book pages.  After tearing a page out of a book, I used decorative scissor to cut off the margins.  Then a rubber stamp was used to stamp a tree shape unto the page and finally the letter stamps were used to add names.

And last but not least,  a hand painted deer pillow was sewn together.  I have a tutorial for it here if you like to know more.

And that's it!

bye now,

Robin

Family Room Holiday Decor

Good Morning!

Are you getting tired of touring my holiday home? It's been a while coming but this is the last post - - I promise!

Today were touring the family room.

When I first started thinking about what to do in this room I was stumped.  I'd used all my matchy-matchy pretty stuff upstairs.  After thinking about it a while I decided to adopt an anything goes state of mind.  All my somewhat "tacky" vintage Christmas decorations that I love but never know how to incorporate into the upstairs decor would now be showcased in this room instead.

I started by the back door with the boot cubby and coat rack.

A simple basket, a stack of books and a lantern added a little something pretty to this space.

A whitewashed grapevine wreath hangs from the hooks on the coat rack.  Red ribbon add a pop of color along with the deer head tassel hanging in the middle.

On the shelf above, I placed a small village of glitter houses and some pretty trees.  The adorable tree on the right was pasted down to me from my mother-in-law years ago.  Thanks Cindy!  Doesn't it look cute with the glitter houses?  I love all the wooden ornaments hanging on the tree.

On the hutch surrounding the television more hand-me-down decorations show up.  The sign is one of my favorites and the girls love the stacking Santa.  It's always been a big hit with any little ones in the house.

I filled another shelf in the hutch with pictures of the girls from Christmas's past surrounded with a few favorite items of mine.

The final shelf received one more framed family photo and some little deer.  I love getting this photos out every year.  It's so nice to look back at the fun the girls had at Christmastime.

Our one and only full sized tree belongs to the girls.
They picked it out at the store, set it up and decorated it all by themselves.  I thought they did an amazing job.  Isn't it pretty!

On the shelf next to the tree I've arranged a few favorite items also.  I had so much fun with this shelf.

A framed Santa, a Santa boot, Santa figures and tiny porcelain deer fill up one side of the shelf.

In the middle, tiny glitter houses crafted by my little ones.  Aren't they cute.  The small, bare tree in the middle was my grandmothers.

On the other side of the shelf a grouping of trees, books and Santa candy molds makes a nice display.

I found this sweet little basket at the thrift store recently which I just added to the mix.

Below the shelf, a half finished art project by one of the kids from three years ago is propped up on the ledge.  At this point I not sure if I want anyone to finish it, it's sort of sweet just the way it is.

Hanging on the wall above the train is a newly found Christmas items that I fell hopelessly in love with.  It reminds me of so many vintage holiday cards I've seen featuring pretty candles on it.  The little bells at the bottom is a nice touch as well.

In the corner of the room a large desk received my favorite vintage Christmas tablecloth.  Don't you just love the pretty designs - - oh look, more bells!

This is the point I may have jumped right over the "too tacky" threshold . . . behind the desk I hung popcorn plastic shaped Santa's on either side of the window. . .

The window it's self is draped in colored lights and tinsel.  I realize to some the Santa's may see horribly ugly but for me, they just make me smile and remind me of my childhood.

On the desk itself I placed a mini tree in an urn, a glittered reindeer and some vintage candles.

How can you not smile when you look at that cheerful snowman face!

This candle ring is a new find too!  I almost squealed when I saw it in the store.  Maybe you can help me out on this one but does anyone know when these were popular Christmastime decor?  I know their popularity is not what it used to be but for some reason I am drawn to them.  This one in particular has just the right balance between pretty and tacky that I love.  It's downright pretty stacked on top of a vintage book.

And finally just for fun, I made this Santa to hang from a vintage clothes hanger.  He's looking a little lonely all by himself so if I have time I may make a few more to give him some friends.

And that my friends is the Family Room.

Hope you enjoyed looking around.
