Family Room Mini-Makeover

I am so excited to share this post with you today.  It's a project I've been working on oh, so slowly over the last couple of months.  Finally this week, I was able to put the finishing touches on the room to show it off.

The Family Room is a rather large room that is "L" shaped.  I've divided the space into three zones.  The entertainment, the studio, and the homework zones.  Because the whole family uses this space I wanted to give it a fun feel and decided on an outdoors/camping theme for the space.  Not an over the top cabin feel, more like a gentle nod towards nature.  Hopefully, I hit my mark.

I do have to warn you, I went a little photo happy and have a lot of pictures to share with you.  I promise to keep my chit-chat to a minimum.  Later this week I'll have another post to share with you more of the details and craft like items I've added to the space.

Lets' get started.

When you first enter the room straight ahead is the sliding glass door that leads to the back yard.

To the left is the entertainment zone . . .

To the right, my studio zone . . .

Around the corner to the left is the homework zone.

The entertainment area I've kept very simple since this space receives a lot of traffic between football games, TV watching and kids video gaming.

Soon after we moved into this home hubby built with entertainment center that has worked wonderful for us.

I love all the storage and display space it gives me.

The studio area I've shared before.

To check out the previous post on this area take a look here.

It's been a few months now since this space has been finished and I am so pleased with how well it's worked out.

The studio also shares a space with the back door.  A shoe shelf and coat hooks keeps things tidy.

Of course it also give me another spot to decorate, which I love.

The Homework area is my favorite new space.

Off to the side a shelf holds some of my favorite vintage goodies.

Next to the desk is Shelby's favorite spot in the room . . . mine too!

Looks cozy right!

The kids use the desk from time to time to do homework, but I've found that I really like keeping my laptop here to do most of my blogging.

And finally, the new gallery wall.

This shelf holds the last remaining little kid toys for my niece and nephews that come over often.

The gallery wall highlights your past camping and ATVing trips

A mix of items is a wonderful reminder of past family fun.

Below the picture frames I've added an old piano bench to hold a few lanterns and some baskets.
I think it finishes off the space nicely.

So there you go, our newly improved Family Room

Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Have a great day.

Fun Finds

Hello All!

It's time once again to show off my fun finds of the week.  I don't know about you but I love looking for treasures each week at the thrift store almost as much as I enjoy showing off my loot!  LOL.

First up this week is this amazing wire plant holder.  It's very heavy and already perfectly distressed.  I fell for it right away of course.

I plan to use it on my porch or on the back patio come summer but for now I've got it filled with faux greenery and sitting in the living room.  It's perfect to add a little garden flare to the room.

My second find of the week was this silver serving piece.  It was super cheap since the bottom is very scratched up but I didn't care at all.

It's the perfect thing to add a little class to my dressing area.  I have it filled with all the items I reach for on a daily basis.  It's so nice to have everything

Have a great weekend.

A Hankering for . . . Garden Time

With the delightful warm weather finally arriving here in Minnesota my mind has shifted towards all things gardening.

I'm itch'in to get my hands dirty and plant seedlings.  Sadly, I'll have to wait at least a month before planting time.  In the meantime, I'll be spending my time searching for inspiration and planning ahead as much as possible.

Here are a few images that caught my eye that I'm hoping to incorporate into my garden.

I thought this mass planting of simple white Impatiens is pure genius.
What a wonderful way to brighten up a shady spot in the garden.

I love this mix of various Hosta's and decorative grasses in island beds.

Although I don't have any island beds in my yard, I do have a Hosta bed that I think could be greatly improved with the addition of some decorative grass.

Hostas

Look how gorgeous this row of Knock Out Roses look against the wood fence.

I have the start of something like this in my backyard garden.  I currently have three Knock Out Roses that I love but maybe if I expand it a little I can have this look towards the middle of my large garden and than fan out into other plants on either side.

Knockout roses and hostas planted along fence. Low maintenance and beautiful!

You all know how much I love my Zinnia's.

This year I'm going to have to give this version a try again.  Queen Red Lime Zinnia's  -  gorgeous aren't they.  I tried them a few years back, but unfortunately the year was not a good one, my whole garden struggled with the cool summer.  Maybe this year will be better.

Queen Red Lime Zinnia

I say this every year, but I really would love to add a pretty birdhouse with vines growing up the post somewhere in my backyard.

Bird house

This isn't really a garden accessory, but for some reason they seem to go hand in hand.  I really need to convince hubby a laundry line would be a great thing - - especially if it looks like this.

I should really make one of these since I have everything it required.  Such a nice way to spruce up a garden necessity.

DIY garden hose hanger with 4 x 4 painted wood + finial + hardware store hose holder

This would be a quick and easy project to give my patio a little character.

diy aging terracotta pots - add some soft pretty color to your pots!

I love planting in buckets.  Aren't these fun!  I would think they would be very easy to do also.

So there you go, now you know where I'm heading with my garden this year.

How about you, any big plans?

bye now
