It's All Coming Together

Ladies, I'm doing a happy dance!

Dance With Me!

The family room makeover is nearing completion. This morning I finished sanding and prepping the beadboard and come tomorrow if I play my cards right I hope to have it all primed and painted. I can't wait. It's going to look amazing!
The reamining items left to complete are 1. slipcover a chaise 2. hang artwork 3. paint a shelf 4. assessorize!

Yesterday I sent out a plead for help with my window treatments and received some great advice. I think I'll try to add some color with my valances - ummm, I. Think. I. Don't. Know.
Here's an idea I had, what you think of these blinds?
Do you think they work? They were installed when we bought the house and I think they function well but have never liked them much - - although I should since they are good quality, heavy, wood binds. And the price is right - FREE!

Would you. . .
A. Say, "YUCK, what is she thinking?"

B. Use them all by themselves (like in photo #1 - I think once I get my furniture back in place it wouldn't look so bare-maybe)

C. Add a valance like in Photo #2?

I just can't decided.

Your input would be very helpful - I just can't seem to make up my mind.

Hope you all have a great weekend - I'll be happily painting.

Until tomorrow, Robin

  1. I honestly don't like the combo of the wooden blinds and then the valance over it. I don't think the two textures go together. On some design blogs I read they always choose to use long window curtains over a small window in order to make it look like a traditional size.

The room is looking great though! I can't believe how quickly you got it together.

  2. Beadbord looks great. Cannot wait to see it all together.

  3. I think the wood blinds could work, but it depends on what else is in the room. I agree that the valance doesn't work with the blinds. What about putting side panels or something...hmmm. That's a tough one.

  4. I like the wood blinds, but the valance is a bit skimpy. Perhaps you could use a coordinating fabric with the slipcover and make long panels that hang on either side (floor to ceiling) to give the window some presence. Or a long scarf valance, that you could easily make yourself.

  5. How in the world do you get so much done, with 2 little ones??

I like the blinds, but I would use a bright splash of color with a valance, maybe a scarf valance, or long panels on each side. It does need a little something extra.

  6. WOW, you're getting so much done. I wonder if you could spray paint the blinds? It'd sure give you a splash of color. They do have 2 inch blinds at Home Depot pretty cheap in white and off white. They cut it to size for free. If you do use a valance it needs to be full and poofy. That's my opinion, for what it's worth. Mimi
