Sidetable Makeover

Hi Everyone!

Today I am excited to share with you how transformed a recently thrift store side table that I picked up for only fifteen dollars.

It was a score to say the least and I am loving how the whole project turned out.

In the video below I'll share the steps I took to transform the side table into piece that would blend easily with the decor I already have in my home.

And they I will show you very quickly how I styled the new table in my Living Room.

Hope you enjoy!

Spray Painting Outdoor Furniture

Morning!

Finally, finally it is warm enough here in Minnesota to spray paint outside again.  I'm kicking off spray painting season by painting a patio chair and two plant holders.

~ ~ ~

They all turned out beautifully and I can hardly wait to get my patio area set up with my newly spruced up items and enjoy some fresh spring air!

Updated Dresser

I feel like the queen of quick and easy projects lately.

One after the other, I've been flying through my list of project and it feels great.

It helps I think that I haven't taken the time to dream up any MAJOR projects for myself of late.

Small simple projects is how I'm roll'in these days.
(makes me feel ultra productive, he he)

The latest of which I'm sharing with you today!

This hand-me down dresser from my parents originally from my grandmother has been used for years in my daughter's bedroom but recently I relocated it into the family room.

I had painted it white over ten years ago when I first received it, and it held up pretty well.
Despite that it was looking a little rough around the edges, it had kids drawings, paint blogs, unidentifiable stains and some chipped paint.

Needless to say, it needed a little tender loving care.

At first I wanted to give the whole thing a bright new paint color, but after debating over colors I couldn't make a decision.

Time for plan "B".

I decided to work with the existing color.

Distressing the edges of the drawers and detail work was a quick and easy way to give the dresser a little more dimension.  Using some sandpaper, I enhanced the already chipped areas on the front of the drawers, along the edges of each drawer and finally along the detail work of the dresser.

It gave the dresser a whole new look.
And only took about fifteen minutes.

I also sanded down to top of the dresser and gave that a new coat of paint to cover up all the stains and kids artwork.

Then I removed and replace all the hardware.

Seems so simple, but it has such an impact!

The dresser now has a new lease on life and is no longer the eye sore of the room.

I've put together a quick video tutorial on the steps I took to update the dresser which you can watch below if your interested.

Enjoy!

Have a great day now,

Robin

Thrift Store Makeovers Using Paint

Good Morning!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week.

Today I have four quick and easy thrift store makeovers I've just complete using paint to share with you.

We all know how transforming a new coat of paint can be but it never hurts to sing it's praises.

Like with these four items.

All of them were perfectly fine to use in their "found" state but a little bit of paint makes them so much better and more customized to fit my home.

Paint,

It's a DIYer's magic potion.

Love it!

If you'd like detailed instructions or a few tips on how I paint you can have a look at the video below that I've put together for your viewing fun!

Have a great day and I'll see you again tomorrow.

Hand Painted Arrow Signs

Good Monday Morning!

Hope your weekend was a relaxing and enjoyable one!

I was able to finish up a few small projects I've had on my mind recently.

One of which I've excited to share with you today.

I have been needing a little something to fill up the small, empty wall space over the family room fireplace and finally inspiration struck!

Arrow's are really on trend right now and I think they are so fun.

I thought a couple painted up and distressed would be a great solution to that blank wall.

A super simple project that took me less than an hour and was totally FREE since all my supplies were leftovers from other projects.

You can't beat that!

If your interested in a tutorial you can check out the video below . . .

I think they turned out pretty cute!

Have a great day now,

Dinning Room Chair Makeover

Have you ever had a decorating choice to make but for some reason or another just can't seem to make up your mind?

It's so frustrating right!

All summer long, I've been waffling back in forth between two paint color options for the dinning room chairs.

Do I want them to blend with the background?????

Or

Do I want them to stand out????

Back and forth. . .  back and forth, until I was so frustrated I didn't CARE. ANYMORE. I JUST. WANTED. THEM.  PAINTED.  NOW!!!

**Gasp**

**breathe**

**breathe**

**Exhale**

And now, after the project is complete, the paint fumes have faded, and the newly painted chairs are happily chill'in in the dinning room the big uproar doesn't seem so earth-scattering anymore - - isn't that the way it goes.

The chairs turned out better than I could have hoped for and they give the room a much more finished look - - for which I am very grateful!

I love the black base-coat showing through in spots, gives the chair a rustic, homey look I think.

Now if only hubby would let me paint the table I would truly be one happy lady!

Have a good day everyone and I'll see you tomorrow!

Sewing Table Turned Bedside Table

My wonderful mother recently gave me a vintage sewing table that she had stashed away and hadn't used in years.

Excited as I was, it didn't take me more than five minutes to figure out where in the house to use it.

My poor hubby has been using a white painted TV table from Ikea for a bedside table for more years than I care to remember - - not that he cared all that much, but it bothered me alot.

A coat of creamy white paint and a light distressing had this vintage beauty looking oh so lovely in my eyes.

A much better fit for this corner of the bedroom then what we had before.

Hubby, bless his heart, actually commented that it was a good thing I mentioned the switch up since he wasn't sure if he would have noticed . . . . . .

I seriously stood there opened mouthed...

in pure dismay staring at him...

unable to form a coherent thought for at least a minute
(which he thought was hilarious)...

before I exploded with a "What do you mean you wouldn't have noticed????"

 - - Great come back right?
It was all I could manage at the moment.  LOL.

Poor Hubby, he just doesn't get it.

. . . . . . .

Oh, and since I'm giving the man such a hard time today I thought I'd share a quick look at how our bed looks on a typical day.

I was chuckling about it to myself while I was taking photos of the new pretty side table and just happened to take a photo for fun.

Do you find anything strange about this picture?

Crazy right!

I call it the pancake pillow.

Try as I might - - and I have, countless times - - hubby won't part with it.

I use to stack pillows up on his side just to make it look even and pretty but these day's I just don't bother.

He's a strange one, my hubby,
but I love him so I guess that means I have to love his pillow too!

. . . . . . .

That's it for my ramblings today, have a great day everyone,

Corner Hutch Makeover

Good Morning!

For a very long time I have been on the hunt for a corner hutch to place in my dinning room.  Countless times I've been on the verge of trying to build my own.   Last week at the thrift store all my waiting was rewarded when I found one for under twenty dollars.

(Insert squealing, happy dances, maybe even some fainting)

To say the least, I was thrilled.

Once I hauled it home I realized it wasn't going to fit where I wanted it to go.  Bummer right . . . excitement meter when down a peg or two for sure . . .Time for Plan "B". . . determined to make it work somewhere in my house I decided the best things to do was get it painted and hope inspiration would come to me.

Today it's looking like this . . .

Last Saturday it was looking more like this. . .

It fits perfectly into the corner of my living room and I'm thinking it looks fabulous and oh so perfect for the spot.
My excitement is back up in high gear.

I had a blast arranging and rearranging some of my favorite things to display.
I can already tell this hutch and I are going to have some fun times.

**Sigh**
Yep, no denying it... I'm in love.

I decided to keep the original hardware just the way I found them.  I'm liking the dark finish it has (in person they don't look so "brassy")

A light distressing along the edges and in a few random spots helped give the hutch a little more detail.

Amazingly, the hutch has increased the cozy feeling in the living room and I couldn't be more pleased.

bye now,

Robin

Updating a Painting

We all enjoy quick and easy makeovers

Love the instant gratification in very little time.

To my way of thinking, painting a picture frame has got to be at the top of the list of all makeovers quick and easy.

Case and point.

This pretty hand painted scene I found at the thrift store.  I fell for the pretty blues in it right away but the frame -- not so pretty.

You can't say "yuck" after a coat of white paint and a little distressing.

The colors of the painting pop out at you more now don't you think.

Easy, Quick and oh so pretty!

Love it.

bye now,

Robin

Simple Stool Makeover

Good Morning Everyone!

It feels wonderful to be back to blogging.  After only one short week of being away I feel so out of the loop and I've been missing you all so much.

Thank you all for the heartwarming get well wishes for my sister.  She is recovering very nicely from her surgery and is hoping to return to work tomorrow.  I will still need to help her out in the evenings until her hubby gets home from work since she is not able to lift the little ones yet, but hopefully I'll be able to work on a few projects this week to share with you.

Somehow or another I did find some time last week for a very quick project.

I had found this little stool at the thrift store a few weeks ago and knew it just had to come home with me.

Of course I wasn't crazy about the dark wood stain, but it is very sturdy and the size was smaller than the other stools I currently have which I thought was fun.

With hopes of an early spring on the brain, I picked a pretty blue color from my paint stash, and slapped some fresh new paint on it.

I had to distress it a little bit too, I'd be crazy not to right?

Right now, I'm not sure where this little beauty will end up in my house but I'm sure it will add a wonderful pop of springtime color to whichever room I decided to place it in.

Oh, almost forgot to mention the lantern.

Pretty right.

It's another thrift store find I couldn't pass up, one can never have too many lanterns . . . or stools!!

Talk to you soon,

Robin

How To Build A Rustic Bead-Board Box

Good Morning Everyone!

Today I'm going to show you how I built the beadboard box that I've used as a centerpiece in the dinning room.

I love how rustic and vintage it looks.

I was pleasantly surprised how quick and easy it was to put together.

To build your own you'll need. . .

1 - 1X8 cut 21" long
2 - 1X8 cut 6 1/8" tall
4 - pieces of bead board paneling cut 21" long
drill
screws
drill bits
brad gun
brads
wood glue

First cut all your wood to the correct size.

Next, attach the two side pieces.

Making sure to pre-drill any holes, and then attach with wood screws.

It should then look like this.

Here's another view.

The next step is to attach the two remaining sides.

Add a little wood glue along all three sides of the frame.

Then using your brad gun, attach the bead board to the frame.

Repeat on the other side and you should have something that looks like this.

To finish off the project I used my dry-brush/scraping technique to give it a weathered, rustic look.

I have a tutorial on how to do it here.

The key is to use very little top coat paint at a time.  Add a thin layer, then scrap it off.  This makes the wood grain pop out.

It's a very simple technique to use and it has wonderful results.

Hope you enjoyed!

Bye now,

Robin
