In the dinning room is a little shelf which I've been wanting to replace with a sideboard or dresser of some kind. The shelf itself is perfectly functional, but it seems too small for the space. I've looked and looked for something to replace it, without much luck.
After rearranging the girls bedroom, which involved taking the bunk bed apart to use as two separate single beds there was no available floor space for Ms. Emily's beautiful desk. We moved the desk to the middle of the living room where it sat for days on end while I contemplated what to do.
I can tell you it looked silly sitting in the middle of the room and quickly became a frustration not to mention a big roadblock. In pure desperation one morning, I moved it over in front of that little shelf in the dinning room just to get it out of the way.
To say I had an "Ah-Huh" moment would be putting it mildly. Nearly tripping over myself, and stubbing my toes not once but twice in my hast to complete the switch I was giddy with relief.
I was a little worried the desk would take up too much of our walking space but it seems to be working out just fine.
I've always love this desk . . .
The top is scratch up and it's looking a little rough . . .
But look at the detail. . . the curved drawers . . .
And those legs!
**sigh** so pretty.
Ms. Emily is loving it too!
She now has her very own homework space with easy access to mom!
Now begins my campaign for paint.
Don't you think she would look like a million bucks painted white with oil bronzed drawer pulls and a little distressing in just the right places?
I just have to convince Ms. Emily.
Wish me luck!
Robin
I'll be linking up to these fun parties:
The desk is perfect, I really like the legs too.....I am liking the new look here at your blog!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous piece! it looks great in its new spot! It would look really pretty painted, but I love it the way it is too.
ReplyDeleteThe desk is fabulous and I love it's new home. Love that cow sign above it too. Painting it would look fabulous. If not white, how about black. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful desk. Don't you just love it when something you already own just fits perfectly? Have you tried applying Howard's or considered refinishing it?
ReplyDeletenice! I just created a homework station a few weeks back as well - no photos yet but now you're inspired me to blog about it! I think we may have the same dining table set (I see a peek of it in the background) I want to sell it & get a new one! Want another? tee hee

I think the desk looks great there. And what a pretty desk, I love the details. White would be pretty or maybe an ivory color, good luck! :)

Robin, first off, I love your new header, and layout, sooooooooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe desk is gorgeous, we're working on a French style desk for our booth, we're doing white, and I'll make a little skirt in toile. I can see your desk in white with a bit of distressing to bring out the charm, I love the drawers! The perfect spot, and the fact that your daughter loves the new position is even better. Great idea!
Robin, that is a gorgeous desk, I love it and you are so right, girl. It would be perfectly lovely in a white. You are SO right. Good luck in convincing your daughter.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
What a pretty desk. It would be beautiful in white :)
ReplyDeletePretty little desk! I've redone one similar in style and just love it!! Visiting from Momma hen's Coop...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic find! I think it looks beautiful the way it is but can understand your temtation to paint it. What about a fun color?
ReplyDeleteI just love it when that happens... The desk looks great and Emily will probably use it so much more in that spot. Well done!

Robin ~ that is a perfect spot for the desk. My kids never use their desks that are in their rooms. Of course they have to be near Mom (who has all the answers) when doing homework! It's such a pretty desk too. The scratches on top mean you don't have to worry about it but it would look really pretty painted too ~ good luck!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful home you have! I'm so glad you linked up this week. I'm off to look around your blog :)
ReplyDeleteLove the desk and that spot is perfect. I think painting it would be a fanastic idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find, love all those curves and the hardware would pop if it were painted white, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this desk....it does have great legs! I found your blog from the common ground party. I'm your newest follower. If you get a minute, I'd love you to stop by my blog & maybe follow along too!
