A New Shelf for the Dinning Room

I have been wanting to update the shelves in my dinning room for a while now and a recent trip to the thrift store scored the perfect solution.

For many, many years I have used two sets of Ikea picture ledges to showcase a collection of framed prints and small items.  I have loved the look, however the narrowness of the ledge was a constant source of frustration.  It's very hard to find pretty items to display which are less than two inches wide.  Here is what the wall looked like last week.

And this is how it looks today.

The mantel like shelf was found at the thrift store and then painted and distressed.  I hung two frames on either side of the shelf to add balance.  And because I hung the shelf high enough that the kids couldn't bump it, I hung a hand lettered sign below the shelf to help the display blend downwards towards the dinning table.

In the middle of shelf I added a silver platter, two vintage clocks and a footed pedestal bowl filled with faux white roses.

On either side of the flowers I placed a small stack of books and a grouping of flameless candles.

And just because I love the way this vignette turned out, here's  another photo.  LOL.

It always amazes me how a quick, simple change-a-roo can have such an effect on a room.  I have to say I'm loving the results.

Talk to you soon,

Robin
