Farewell My Sweet Friend

I have been putting off writing this post for three weeks. . . It's been too painful to write.

Even now as I write with tears streaming down my face I wonder if it is too soon for me to share my sorrow.

For the past fifteen years, this adorable furry friend has been my constant companion.

Sadly, I had to make the painful decision to say goodbye.

He was my first baby . . .

My walking companion . . .

My snuggle bunny . . .

My garden helper . . .

My errand shotgun rider . . .

My snack gobbler . . .

My foot warmer on chilly nights . . .

My backyard patrol guard . . .

My afternoon reading companion . . .

My friend . . .

He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Zebby Baby,  I love you.

Today, Tomorrow,
Forever

Robin

  2. I am so sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to your furbaby! I know as a pet lover that these are the times that you heart just brakes and there is really nothing anyone can say to help with the pain but know your not along in this. It will get less and less each day, you will never get over it but it will become part of your life. ~hugs~ My prayers go out to you!

    1. Your right of course, each day gets a little easier with less and less "first thing without him moments" to go through. Thank you so your kind and sweet words of encouragement.

  3. So sorry, Robin. Our pets truly become a member of the family. So faithful and always happy to see you with those big puppy eyes. I have no doubt that Zebby had a wonderful life. I hope it gets a little easier as time goes by. Thinking of you!

  7. There is nothing so hard as saying goodbye to our doggy companions, Robin. I cried for weeks after we lost our little Fergie. She was our one and only pet and grew up with our girls, so like your Zebby, she was truly one of our children. You just have to keep reminding yourself of the good life you gave him and it will get easier as time passes.

  10. Oh, Robin...this is so, so sad. I've been there, and though it was long ago, you always carry those memories deep in your heart. The pictures of your little guy melt my heart. And everything you counted on him for, I do with mine, who is 10. I know I have to treasure these years. Sending a hug.

    XO,
    Jane

  13. Oh Robin, I am so very sorry. I lost my Whoopie Girl 5 years ago on Christmas Day and it's still hard for me. Eventually it does get easier and you remember all the fun things you did together. I got another dog in a couple of months as Waldo was so lonesome. You will have wonderful memories of your sweet dog. Just remember he will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Gate. Sending my deepest sympathy.

  16. We lost our precious Dorje in July after 14 years with her. It is so difficult. My husband could not wait long to have another little buddy to follow him along the sand. We got a puppy right away. And, several times a day I refer to Lulu as Dorje.

My heart goes out to you.

  18. Oh Robin, my heart goes out to you! I'm so sorry for your loss. Zebby looks like such a sweet, huggable guy. Pets hold such a special place in our hearts, don't they? I lost my little doggie, Murphy, a year ago when I was on vacation. It was so horrible not being there to say goodbye. I think about him all the time. As hard as things are for you right now, I hope you take some comfort in all the wonderful memories you have of your time with Zebby. Hugs xo

  24. Dear Robin, I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss; when our furbabies depart, it leaves such a hole in our heart. I know that memories will ease your pain, eventually, and some day you will smile as you remember the times together. I still miss so many of my pups but they wouldn't want us to cry-Zebby would say thank you for letting go.
Sending big hugs to you today.

  28. Love your blog-first time I have commented. I am so sorry for your loss. Animals are a special gift from God, aren't they. I can just imagine him knowing that someday we would need a warm, furry friend to snuggle and love. He is good. I lost my almost 17 year old dog, Buddie three weeks and 2 days ago. She was the best dog ever. It hurts so much. But, a good friend reminded me what I told her last year when she lost a beloved cat- Big love=Big pain. It is the bittersweet, isn't it? I am thankful that I can Love Big and that God will help heal my hurting heart. Sending prayers your way.

  29. So sorry Robin for this loss. I lost one of my basset hounds this past year too and I know how hard it it to have to say good bye. Time has a way of making things seem less painful you never stop missing them but the pain over time does seem to not be as intense. I wish that for you. Hugs.

  31. The only thing wrong with dogs is that they don't live long enough! I'm so sorry for your loss. I know your home seems empty now and you probably turn around to look for him constantly. Posting about his departure and all those tears are a start towards healing. You were lucky to have him. He was lucky to have you.

  33. I am sorry for your loss. I have been lucky to have had 3 such wonderful pets in my 61 years. Each time I had to make that last effort for them it was harder than I can imagine. I remember all three of them, I loved all 3 so very much. I am sure that in time you will find another 'baby' to share your life.

  34. Thanks for the nice comment you left on my Pumpkin Colors post. I love that bag too. Too bad I can't afford it. So sorry about your loss. He sounds like he lived a long happy life. I can't imagine the day I'll have to say goodbye to my Frenchie! Take care!

  35. Robin, I'm so sorry. I have one of those too, and I'm starting to realize that we are not far from that juncture and not sure how I'll deal with it. No choice. That is the downside to loving our pets, but the value they bring to our lives is too great to pass up. I'm older now, and I've decided if I do get another, it will be an adopted older pet. Still...it's so hard right now. Time kiddo, it'll take time.

  36. I cried as I read this post. I have been there too, the love from our furry children that is eternally unconditional is something special. May you find peace in knowing that you gave a great dog a great life of love and happiness. So sorry for you loss. Hang in there.

  37. We had to let go of our 15 year old best buddy this fall. He was the best, friendly yet guardie, talkative, loving goggie. It was so hard on our hearts, but just the thought of him being in pain (he never cried) or feeling embarrassed by not being able to control his back legs, we couldn't let it go any longer. He had such a beautiful face and a big love especially for me, the Mom. If you'd like to see a pic he's on my f/book page. Germaine Fryc. Prayerful hugs sent to you and yours who miss him terribly.
