Easy Homemade Dog Bed

Morning All!

If your a pet owner like me you may find the price tag on accessories for your furry friend a little hard to take.

I know I do.

Oh sure sometimes I splurge, but not often.

My biggest complaint has been finding a dog bed that is both low priced and works with my decor.   It seems such a bed does not exist.

So until I find that low priced, fabulous dog bed that I just have to have I've been making my Shelby Girl a homemade version instead.

Shelby doesn't seem to mind at all.

She seems to think it's great for both nap time . . . 

And chewing on toys time!

To make your own all you'll need is some fabric and a bed pillow.

I like to use a pillow with gusset sides, but any pillow will do really.  I've used a standard size pillow from Target.  

Second, sew your fabric into a simple envelope style slipcover.  I have a tutorial on how to do that here if you need a refresher.  Oh sure, you could get real fancy and sew in a zipper if you'd like but I like quick and easy so envelope style is for me.

Once you have your slipcover sewn, flip the cover inside out so that your working on the inside.

Starting in one corner, line up your side seams and smooth your fabric out on your work-surface in a triangle shape - - making sure your seams are centered down the middle . . . 

Should look like this.

Next, taking a ruler and a straight edge, measure from the point of the triangle 2 to 3 inches down your seam.  Place the straight edge across the corner and mark your sewing line - - 

Pin in place and it should look like this.

Repeat the same process on the remaining three corners of the slipcover.

The next step is to simply sew a straight line along the stitching line you've drawn.  

Should look like this.

Finally, insert your pillow into the slipcover to check the fit and if all is well remove the pillow and trim off the extra fabric at each corner.

Turn the cover right side out, insert your pillow and your done!

Super easy and all for only about $12.
