Adding A Little Sparkle

I've been missing the sparkle of Christmas lately.  How about you?

Yesterday I decided what better way to add a little sparkle then with polished silver.

Now normally I'm a girl who loves her tarnished silver, the texture is beautiful to me.

But lately my silver has been looking a little less tarnished and a lot more black.

Out came the Tarn-X.
I did have a moment of hesitation at this point.  You see, my collection of silver is nothing special, just items I've picked up at flea markets, and thrift shops.  I'm pretty sure most of it is just silver plated.  But none of that matters, I love it just the same.

Afraid I was about to ruin each prized piece, I took a deep breath . . . gave myself a pep talk . . . and forged forward!

I'm so glad I did.

Here is the before . . .

And after . . .

After the first piece turned out so well, I kept right on going, and going, until my entire collection was tarnish free.

I still need to take the time to arrange everything, but that will have to wait since I have a few different projects going on right now

For now, the sparkle I've been craving is back!

until tomorrow,

Robin

  1. Wow! They look great...I love tarnished too but it feels so good once they all get polished. We get to watch the whole tarnishing process all over again! LOVE the shelves with all the white mixed in!

Hope you're having a wonderful new year...I don't think the need for sparkle ever goes away ~ :)

  2. Hello, just found you by way of Keswick & Country (from comments) and so very glad I did! Can't believe I had the same dilemma last week with my silver. Like you I went ahead an polished it up, just a few pieces, and love how the tarnished and shiny look together.

  4. Robin,
It looks beautiful! I have a tea set that really needs to be polished and I so hate the task of doing it but you have inspired me to get out that silver polish. I just wish there was something easier to use to do it....

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  8. Isn't it amazing the difference? I love both the tarnished and polished look. I've been thinking about polishing my champagne cooler... maybe it's these dark days of winter that have me craving the light and sparkle!

  14. Hi Robin,
Your silver looks beautiful! Maybe I should tackle mine, mine is looking like your "before" photo. And the shine would be nice, I miss the little lights, if I could figure out how to have tiny lights up all year, especially during the winter months, I would. I love the light that they give. I keep forgetting to come over here to visit, so I am going to put you on my blog roll, that way I will be sure to remember! Because yours is one of my favorite blogs!

  18. Delightful, Robin! The white shelves with a bit of greenery and the silver epitomize the loveliness of winter. You're right--our tastes do seem to be quite similar. :)

  19. I went through the same thing at Christmas. Love the tarnished look, but since I was using some pieces on my serving table it looked a little wierd to serve food on a tarnished tray. So I got out the silver polished and polished some up. I'm going to have to break out the tarn-x for my ice bucket though. It's so badly tarnished that there is no way that I'm going to spend 4 hours rubbing it out with normal polish remover.
