You all know how much I enjoy a simple red and white color scheme so it probably comes as no surprise that I'm a big fan of Redwork.
Have been for years.
Yet I don't have a single stitched piece to call my own.
Now that we are smack dab in the middle of winter it seems like the sort of thing one should do to pass the time.
In the past I did cross stitching and something my mom use to call Candlewicking all the time when I was young. But it's been over ten years since I've picked up a needle and stitched away.
I've been missing it.
So I've been searching for inspiration to ease me back into it.

Redwork has recaptured my interest and I'm excited to try my hand at it.
I love the simplicity and beauty of it.
Whether it be simple or elaborate.
How about you?
Are you a fan of Redwork?
Robin
I love the look of redwork, too, Robin! We are blessed to have a large piece from my husband's family dated 1860...I want to have it framed. There's something very Scandinavian about the look of redwork to me...beautiful inspiration photos!
ReplyDeleteI love this look as well. I have a couple dish towels with red work on it that I like to display. I love touches of red too...if I want a splash of color that's usually my go to color. Excited to see your finished products when you are done! (By the way I loved your cutting board centerpiece in the last post...might have to try that:))
ReplyDeleteI am indeed. In fact my post today is also about red and white.

wow that one with the scones on top is especially gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd heard of Redwork before, so I went and found some websites that sell or talk about it. It is absolutely beautiful. I'd like to try it, will look into it some more.

I like redwork too! And I own none also! At least I don't think I do. I do have a thrifted red tablecloth that has white stitching on it. Maybe that's called whitework?
ReplyDeleteI love rework! I have been thinking the same thing, Robin, I've seen lots of it on Pinterest and it's so pretty. Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspiration! And yes I am a fan but so far I don't have any myself.....well not yet ;-)

LOVE Redwork. I made a set of pillowcases a few years ago of a vintage Southern Bell via Martha's Patterns. Am planning on doing a quilt of the nativity scene from a pattern I got ten years ago! Have fun and go for it!!
ReplyDeleteHi Robin! Thank you for the nice comment on my blog :-) I love white linnen with red stitching on it! Have a nice day! Regards Paula
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE it and sometimes do a search on Etsy ...just to window shop! You found some wonderful examples!
ReplyDeleteI love redwork too! I've found a redwork book with lots of patterns in it at Joanns and I'm trying to decide which one to do. Love your pretty yellow roses. It's so hard to pick a favorite rose color. I just love them all. Mimi
ReplyDeleteI love Redwork, but only own one simple piece. I actually bought the pattern to embroider German good night and good morning pillow cases last year. Obviously I haven't gotten around to it, but once I finish the bedroom, it's on the top of my list. It will look wonderful in your home!
ReplyDeleteI love your redwork. My Mom had quite a few pieces and I don't know what happened to them. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh yes, yes, I love redwork too! The last picture that you showed is my favorite. I love monograms and that tablecloth too. I have some redwork pillowcases...they're new, but still very pretty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love it too. I thought that I had a few pieces that my mom made when she was a young girl, but haven't been able to find them. Makes me sad. What a lovely craft to take up again.
ReplyDeleteI have a redwork quilt. My grandmother and her sister stitched each redwork block when they were girls about 100 years ago. My grandmother told me that their mother would buy them a new block only when they finished the one they were working on and that her blocks had the larger stitches because she tried to sew as fast as her older sister. My great-grandmother saved the blocks and in the 1950s, she and my grandmother put them together into a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the look of white candlewicking or french knots on white. I've never done it but maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteI love opening my kitchen drawer for a fresh dishtowel and seeing many pieces of redwork to choose from. They brighten my life!
