DIY Barn Door

Good Morning!

I have a tutorial for you today.

During my Fall Living Room Tour (you can check it out here if missed it) you may have noticed the barn door hanging over the sofa.

Simple and easy to build with a few supplies, I thought I'd show you how to make your own!

Supplies
beadboard planks
1X3 boards
1 inch wood screws
All Purpose Glue
Electric Drill / Screwdriver
Power Saw or Jigsaw

Start by cutting your beadboard planks to the length you'd like.  I cut mine four feet long.
Slide the planks together by placing the tongues into the groove of another plank.

Next, using a Power Saw or Jigsaw cut two lengths of 1X3 to the width of the beadboard planks.  One for the top and one for the bottom.

Apply all purpose glue to the 1X3 and then place across the beadboard positioning it three inches from the end of the planks.

Predrill pilot holes for the wood screws, then attach the wood screw using a drill.

Repeat the same process on the opposite side of the beadboard planks.

Next, cut another 1X3 to fit diagonally across the planks between the two boards you've already attached.

Add a generous amount of all purpose adhesive to one side of the board then place across the beadboard planks.

It should look like this . . .

Once again, predrill pilot holes for the wood screws and attach the diagonally cut board to the beadboard planks using wood screws and an electric screwdriver.

And that's it!
Next you can paint it up and then find some fun way to use it in your house.

I've also put together a quick video tutorial to walk you through the steps if you'd like to take a look at that below. . .

I'm loving the look it give to the large wall above the sofa.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial

bye now,

Robin
