A Vintage School Chair

Around here we look forward to Football Season all year long.

Every Sunday afternoon I host faithful group of Packer fans as we cheer on our team.  I never know how many people to expect, sometimes it's just our core group of ten, sometimes it's more.  However many show up it's always a good time even when the Packers aren't having an "A" game.

With so many people to accommodate  I'm always on the lookout for seating that is easy to move around.  A recent trip to the thrift store produce a fun addition in the form of a vintage school chair.

It's just the right size to tuck in between the sofa and the sliding glass door to the back yard. Yet still allows plenty of room to walk between the two.

Right way I thought it was perfect for the kids to use.
The handy little table is perfect for game day snacks!
What's football without snacks!

The chair is perfect in many, many ways.
I love the hand-painted number on the back.

A newly sewed ticking striped pillow adds a little softness and looks so pretty against the dark stained wood.

And of course underneath, I made good use of the shelf by adding a couple red vintage books.

So far, the chair has worked perfectly for us.  The kids love using.
I love how perfectly it gives the room a little unexpected vintage flare.

Hope you have a wonderful day,

Fun Finds

Today's post is a quick round up of a few items I've found recently.

Pretty hand stitched linen, a gorgeous crocheted runner and some vintage clothes pins.

I was very excited to find a full set of biscuit cutters with handles.
They have been on my watch list for a while now.
Can't wait to make some biscuits!  Yummy!

Can you tell I'm loving this find?  Can't stop taking pictures.

Told hubby I found a deer head for the basement . . . he was like "ummm, ok"
Once he saw what I was talking about . . . he's cool with it.

Mr. Deer was a weird green / brown color which I didn't think was all that pretty so I quickly gave him a coat of black paint.  Isn't he cute?

And finally, I came across a book full of sheet music.

What a score!  I can't wait to get using it for crafting.

How about you?  Any great finds lately?

Pumpkin Pick'in

This time of year I tend to get a little Pumpkin Crazy!

I want dozens and dozens of them. In all shapes and sizes.

In the past I've had to struggle through the season with a handful at the most since I just can't seem to bring myself to paid the high price they tend to be around here.

This year I got smart and decided to grow my own.
The backyard veggie garden that has seen more flowers than veggies the past few years was planted with four different sized pumpkins and a few gourds.  The only other thing I planted was a patch of Zinnia's which I can never been without during the summer.

The pumpkins were allowed to run wild, climbing and twisting their way though the garden however they wanted.

A few decided to go vertical and started growing up and along the fence which I thought was perfect and oh so cute.

The experiment was a success,
however I was very disappointed to only get one Jack O Lantern sized pumpkin on a single vine.
Next year I will know to plant more.

The little pumpkins and gourds grew amazingly well.  I was able to fill up three buckets from only five pumpkin vines.

I'm already planning next years pumpkin patch.

Three buckets full is great but SIX would be better.

See what I mean,  Pumpkin Crazy!

Are you the same way this time of year?

Silver Pitchers Big and Small

I always get excited when I score a tarnished silver piece at the thrift store.  Don't you?

I have a modest size collection, which of course I love adding too.  I thought it was perfect timing when I found two small sized pitchers just last week.  Now I'm always in love with silver, but I love to use it more around the house during the autumn and winter months.  Since autumn has finally arrived, and I'm starting to dig out all my other silver items this score was timely indeed.

In order to use them right away without having to put much thought into it, I clipped a few Limelight Hydrangea's to fill the pitchers and set them both on a pretty platter.

Now I can admire my two new favorite things.  I love how similar each pitcher is to the other.
They both have pretty detailing and fluted sides.

They both have unique handles which I adore.

Hydrangea's go so well with tarnished silver don't you think?

Hope you all have a wonderful day,

Hydrangea's From The Garden

This time of year I find myself clipping Hydrangea's at an alarming rate.  I can never quite bring myself to clip any during the summer. But now it seems I have to do it fast before they all go bad.

I clipped a handful of Limelight Hydrangeas to make a simple centerpiece for the dinning room table.  First I laid a new lace tablecloth on the table that I hope will work perfect for Thanksgiving - just to try it out.  LOL.
Then placed a simple footed cutting board on top.

To hold the Hydrangea's a new glass jug was called in to help.
I adore it's wire and wood handle.

And of course the pretty etching on the sides is a nice detail too.  I have know idea what this jug was used for in the past, but when I found it at the thrift store I knew it would be perfect for flowers.

For the kitchen, I clipped a handful of Annabelle Hydrangea's that have turned to their pretty autumn green color.

The flowers look so pretty resting in a mini bushel basket and sitting on my vintage step stool.

It seems to me it's the perfect pairing.

So how about you?

Have you been clipping flowers like crazy before the frost gets them?

A Farmhouse Stool

For years I've longed to find a farmhouse style stool.  I've come across small ones, wobbly ones, and not so fabulous ones but never the perfect one.

That all changed with a trip to the thrift store last week.  Sitting in the furniture section was the perfect sized, non-wobbly stool.  It was paint splatter but solid and for only four dollars I quickly put it in my cart feeling like a thief - - but giggling to myself over my amazing find.

After two coats of cheerful red spray paint, my farmhouse stool is looking oh so perfect in the corner of the kitchen.  I have a feeling this beauty will be moving around the house quite a bit but for now I'm loving it in the corner.

To get started on my Autumn decorating, I dug out three small jack O lanterns that I had given a face-lift to last year.  The kids love them since they light up and now that I've taken care of the nasty orange color they original were I'm loving them too!

If your at all interested in making one for yourself, you can revisit the post on it here.

Have a great weekend everyone.

A Hankering For . . . A Festive Fall

I'm sure most of you have already started decorating your homes for Fall.

I'm way behind schedule compared to most.  It just hasn't seem very fall like around here.  Last week was more like mid-August - - hot and humid.  This week, thankfully, is much more cool and it's starting to feel like Fall.

Which has my head spinning with idea's on how to make my house seem festive and cozy for this perfect time of year.

Here's a round up of photos from my Pinterest Boards that have inspired me for season.

Vintage Bibles

I recently started collecting vintage Bibles.

It's a small collection.  Two Bibles and one Common Prayer book.

The petite, tattered versions call out to me.

At first I had them stored away in a room not often used.  But just last week I moved them into our living room and made a display with them on my desk.

Every since, these well worn books of hope, faith, and love have become a gentle daily reminder to me.

A single glance throughout my busy day reminds me to set a better example for my family . . . to pray more often . . . to show more compassion.

They are beautiful books, inside and out.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

A Simple Toothbrush Holder - Vintage Style

My kids are in an uproar!!

Tensions are running high and everyone has an opinion.

Wondering what's got everyone so worked up?

 Just between you and I,
apparently in the kid's bathroom . . . the toothbrush holder does not provide enough space between toothbrushes  **GASP**  and if you don't place your toothbrush just right (like someone isn't doing) it will tip slightly and touch another toothbrush  **DOUBLE GASP**

Sick and tired of the daily running debate/bickering fest over the subject today after the kids left for school I decided I needed to come up with a solution.

This is what I came up with.

I started with a small glass serving tray . . .

Added three vintage pint - sized milk bottles . . .

And then finished off the project with three brand new toothbrushes.

That should do the trick don't you think?  Plus I think it's pretty cute.

Hopefully it's kid approved!

Have a great day everyone,

Robin
