Decorating dilemma's.
We all have them.
Do you ever think on a problem for what seems like ages, then all of a sudden "the perfect solution" pops into your head? You become excited and happily scratch "the perfect solution" at the top of your To-Do list. When time free's up, you gather your supplies with almost girlish delight (giggling to yourself how prefect it's going to be) and jump right in with gusto!
When your project is complete you stand back and admire your handy work, patting yourself on the back for being such a smarty pants!
Yeah! It's a great feeling isn't it.
Sure wish I was feeling it right now . . .
instead I'm shaking my head wondering where in the heck my "perfect solution" went so terribly, terribly wrong.
Do you see the light fixture over the kitchen table?
I've wanted to replace it ever since my kitchen remodel.
Replacement fixtures that I've liked are so similar to what I have now it seemed like a waste to toss the old one. My "perfect solution" was to spray paint the once white lamp shade with a cheerful red to give the mostly white space a pop of color. My plans all went according to plan until I hung the shade back on the fixture . . .
Ummm, I'm not liking it...
Yeah, it's not getting any better ...
I'm pretty sure I'm hating it now . . .
O.K.! Great! (hands in the air) . . .
Now all I see is a flying saucer!
Oh! You see it too!
Guess this proves I can't be a smarty pants all the time!
The search for a new light fixture will begin tomorrow. Any thoughts on where to begin my search? I can use all the help I can get at this point! LOL.
Have a great day,
Robin
I buy a lot of my light fixtures at overstock.com (o.com). They have so many shapes sizes colors etc... I have never had a problem with anything I have bought from there either. The prices are great too :-) I can't wait to see what you get...have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteI've bought nice ones from Destination Lighting. Also Lamps Plus. Have been happy with both sites. Also gallery 87 if you ever want a chandelier or like. I seriously didn't see ufo till you said it. But having seen it, you can't unsee it, right? :)
ReplyDeleteReally? I like it!!
ReplyDeleteI sm sure you will find just the right fixture. Yes, I have expereinced many of those decor mess ups...lol.. You have great taste. I am sure you will find what you need. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIf your other chair wasn't red also, I think the lamp looks great.. my eye goes to the left side of the photo like it carries more weight.
ReplyDeleteBTW,
this is your old pal Kay
I liked it, too, and didn't see the flying saucer until you mentioned it. But YOU have to like it. I can't tell you how many times something I do turns out so completely different than I thought. Sometimes it works...sometimes, it doesn't...
ReplyDeleteI actually think it looks really cute, maybe paint the inside of the glass area on top red also? But like other posters have said, YOU have to love it or it's gonna drive you nuts. Happy hunting for a new light, I bought a fabulous one from Luckettstore.com online shop.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, I didn't see the flying saucer until you mentioned it! I actually thought it looked cute. However, that being said, I know that if I, personally, don't like something, no matter how many people tell me they like it, it won't matter one bit until I'm happy with it. Good luck on the search!
ReplyDeleteI really like it but if you must replace it...:( try Home Depot online where they have a great selection. Overstock is also great. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Call me tasteless, but I like it just fine. Debbie
ReplyDeleteLOL- I actually kind of like it, Robin. It adds a cute op of color. But, if YOU hate it then it needs to go. Could you spray paint it a different color? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHonestly, in the first photo I tried to find what was 'wrong' and couldn't! I don't think it's bad at all! :) But if you're not happy I'd start over, too!
ReplyDeleteWell I didn't see the problem until you described it. I don't think it looks bad. You could even paint the little upper part red so the entire fixture is red, not just the saucer part. That may help it look better. I can see where you were going with it because it pulls the red out of the stitching on the valance and the chair. If it's the red color that you're not liking, why not try black? It's classic!
ReplyDeleteI think it is fab.. before you change the light, change what youhave on the table! Keep working with it. It seems simple adn clean and very vintage!! Keep going!! Dianntha
ReplyDeleteI like the red light, especially with the red chair at the table. But a similar style hanging pendant in a gray metal would look really cool! Check out the- Pendant Single-light Brushed Stainless Finish- at Overstock. :)
ReplyDeleteOK, I don't see a flying saucer. I think it looks cute. I might try painting the glass part at the top before you just totally get rid of it if it's bugging you.
ReplyDeleteI love it, but U will always see it as a UFO! I am so picky on lighting fixtures & lamps, it takes years before I can decide on any to replace outdated ones in my house. I would try repainting it as suggested above. Mary
ReplyDeletethat was really awesome i have my own
ReplyDeleteMultiple Rattan Conservatory Furniture
in my house but this one looks simple but elegant.
I think the candle holder on the table would make a nice light fixture
