Living Room's Winter Decor

It's taken me a while to figure out how to decorate my living room and even longer to actually get it done but it's finally finished and I thought today was a good time to show it off.

Wanting something clean and simple looking, I thought I'd try a classic black and white look with some red thrown in here and there just to keep me happy.
I had hoped it would have a slight "Nordic" flare when it was all said and done since I have been very inspired by that look lately.  Not quite sure if I hit my mark, but I am happy with the look I ended up with.  The room looks fresh, pretty and cozy to me.

Starting with the chippy coffee table.
I added a simple centerpiece.

Dollar store candles and a whitewashed grape-vine wreath.
The grouping of candles look so pretty at night.

Below the table is the perfect spot for the Shelby's favorite pillow and a wire basket filled with her toys.

Not sure how much longer the pillow will stay where it is.  Shelby has become very fond of the sofa and rarely uses her pillow anymore.

The sofa received two lumbar pillows with a pretty red and white floral fabric for a pop of color and a super soft white throw blanket which normally has a comfy puppy snuggled up in.

Above the sofa I arranged a grouping of simple photos in black frames on the photo ledge shelves.

Enameled numbers and chickewire pieces were added for a little extra interest.

The simplicity of this arrangement has me very pleased.

A wire basket, a candle and vintage red books help cozy up the corner.  Running low on interesting artwork, I framed up a trio of vintage postcards until I can think of something else.

On the other side of the room, an armchair and accessories finish up the seating area.

For artwork over here, I used two small black and white maps torn from a vintage book.

On the table, a few accessories in black help add some interest without looking cluttered.

And finally I brought back my favorite sign to hang above the desk.

Simple accessories like black candlesticks  . . .

and a distressed tray filled with a few favorite items is all that I thought this space needed.

That my friends is my take on winter decorating.

Hope you enjoyed.

bye now,

  1. Beautiful! You get so much light in there - I'm jealous! First thing I do in the winter in the morning is open all the curtains and pull up all the shades. I want as much light to come in as possible.

  15. Absolutely charming, Robin! I'd say you definitely hit the "Nordic" mark and then some! It looks really fresh and so very charm!

Thanks for visiting again and taking a look at my new sliding storage. There have been several comments about borrowing or renting The Man, but I think NOT -- probably going to have to keep him under lock and key!

  16. There is so much I love in your living room. Just to name a few - those red checked curtains are wonderful as is the chippy coffee table.

I love the shot of your dog and the toys. Our Lulu has a wooden toy box and tends to take every toy out at night when we are trying to relax.

  25. My cow sign is back!!! Love that thing. Your living room looks so pretty. Can I say that as long as I have been seeing your living room (what, 2 years at least) I thought that window with the red stool in front of it looked out into your front yard. I don't know why it makes a difference, but it just threw my mental floor plan of your house off :)
