Silence Is Sweet
I've received a rare treat today.
I'm at home . . .
Alone.
No kids, no hubby, just me!
Can you hear that?
You can't hear anything, you say!
Oh, why that is called silence. The absence of sound or noise . . .
And it is Sweet.
I plan to enjoy it.
This morning was all about productivity. I've been making theses.
But now it's lunch time. The painting and distressing can wait.
Instead I'll be channeling my inner "lazy bum"
ALL AFTERNOON LONG!
Wish me luck.

A Farmhouse Sign
First off, I feel I should apologize for all the photos to follow.
I'm a little excited about this project and went a little crazy taking pictures.
This is one of those projects that almost never happened! Ever have an idea floating around inside your head, yet never take the time to finished the thought? Instead, your left with a spark of an idea ... and months pass ...the spark flares up again ... you move on to more pressing matters ...repeat, repeat, repeat. You get the idea.
Last week I decided it was high time to finish the thought and do something about it.
The result is this sign. . .
I knew I wanted a planked sign with a cow on it.
- loving cows lately-
For the farm name I combined two sides of my family history.
My mothers grandparents lived in a little town in Wisconsin called Springbrook. They called this small unincorporated town their home from the time of their marriage until they passed away. I remember visiting their small cottage many times.
My fathers great, great, great, great grandfather bought land in Springbrook Township also in Wisconsin. The land was farmed by one family member or another for over 100 years.
Springbrook Farm seemed like an appropriate name for my sign. Plus I like the daily reminder of my heritage.
The date was pick to honor the year the farm land was purchased.
I love the sign surrounded by the stars and few items I have deemed "farm like".
A scale and lacy linen...
A vintage fan...
A small chair and pretty pillow...
It even look good from across the room!
See I warned you, lots of pictures!
Take care,
Robin

Weekend Inspiration
On the weekends I look forward to spending a little extra time browsing blogs for inspiration.
This past weekend was very inspiring for me.
Here are some of my favorites.
I'm loving this simple, paired-down kitchen in pale colors.
This sweet little bench caught my eye, along with all the creamy white accessories.
It seems my obsession with turquoise continues. How fabulous is this cabinet!
The lamp base is a great color too! I like the mix of the two colors together.
My ironstone loving side is crushing on this.
And my tarnished loving side is swooning over this.
I love the birdcage collection.

Hope you all are having a great Monday,

The Bathroom
Our poor main bath is in need of some attention.
It's a windowless, small room and I would really like to add a little personality to the space.
A while back I made few changes that made a world of difference.
After adding the shelves . . .
A new ruffled shower curtain . . .
And painting the cabinets white . . .
I stopped. Thinking I'd take a break and then come back to it.
That was almost a year ago.
Now the yellow walls seem very harsh,
the ugly lighting it looking more and more gross . . .
And the cracks in the flooring are getting bigger.
(can you see I still haven't replaces the baseboards after adding the beadboard! So sad!)
Paint is the first order of business, I just can't stand the wall any longer.
The last few months I've been leaning towards painting the walls a pale grey color
(hubby was not happy with that - at all - thinking it will look too blah!).
(hubby was not happy with that - at all - thinking it will look too blah!).
But then I saw this photo. . .
I can't shake it.
I'm obsessing about it - I lay in bed at night while I'm supposed to be sleeping thinking about it.
I love the white walls, the chrome faucet, and the pops of pale turquoise and blues.
I like the idea of creamy white walls, thinking it would be super easy to change things up with different colored accessories and towels. I'd keep the white cabinets and beadboard, adding color with frames and accessories.
Yet I hesitate!
These colors are sooooo far out of my normal color range I'm afraid to take the leap.
So I'm hoping that my wonderful blogging friend will convince me to take the leap, tell me it will be OK - that it's a good possibility it will be fabulous!
Can you help me out?

A Bear Hunting We Will Go . . . .
Hubby sent this to me today and I thought I would share since I thought it was sooooo funny.
You see we are BIG Packer fans!
The big Championship Packers vs. Bears game is coming up this weekend.
We'll need one of these don't you think?
A Random Type of Day . . .
I have a few random things to share with you today. I've been working on a few projects and day to day activities have somehow become busy this week. Sadly, blogging hasn't been a top priority, hopefully soon I'll be able to correct that.
During the month of December the lovely, talented Jill from Forever*Cottage
had a giveaway and I am now the proud owner of these lovelies . . .
Three Christmas themed flashcards, a beautiful silver trophy bowl dated 1960 (love it!), and three adorable vintage ornaments.
For a first time giveaway winner, I'm so excited and happy the gifts are so "me".
Thanks Jill!
This morning I had one of those light bulb moments that has me feeling like a decorating goddess.
I love candlelight this time of the year, but I dislike when the candle starts running down the pillar - - pooling hot wax into the bottom of my glass containers. More often than not, when the candle is all used up the whole thing get packed away, mess and all since I hate digging the wax out.
This morning I had the bright idea to insert one of my jar candles inside the hurricane lantern instead of a pillar candle.
I'm sure a few of you are most likely rolling your eyes thinking to yourself
"Well duh! Doesn't everyone do that?"
ahhhh, no - - not me - - until today!
THIS IS BIG TIME STUFF!
No more mess, just pretty flickering candlelight.
To dress up the hurricane lantern a bit, I added a little rock salt to mimic snow and hold the candle jar level. Wrapped beaded garland around the base to add a little sparkle for the daytime. And placed the whole thing on a newly polished silver tray.
Pretty right!
And practical for lazy people like me!
And finally, today is super cold. The weatherman says it's will feel like -14 degrees. Yuck, and double Yuck!
Zebby Baby doesn't seem to mind. He's found a sunny, warm spot to take a nap!
Hope you all have a great day - - stay warm!

The Little Cabin In The Woods
This past weekend the girls and I joined Grandma and Grandpa for a day trip to the little cabin in the woods. It was cold - very cold but it didn't dampen our spirit.
In order to get to the cabin, we loaded up these . . .
and drove down trails like this . . .
To do a little of this . . .
Winter is a great time for bomb fires and it's an event I look forward to.
All summer long as we work on clearing the woods around the cabin, the burn pile slowly grows larger. Our hard work is rewarded on fine winter days like this. We sit for hours tending the fire, relaxing and chatting.
I had also been looking forward to trying my hand at cooking on the wood stove.
It took a little trial and error, but I finally figured it out.
I feel positively pioneer!
Tasty, warm pancakes!
(can you hear me giggling!)
After lunch we tended to the bomb fire a little more then did a little of this!
All in all, it was an enjoyable weekend which we'll all remember for a long time to come.
Until tomorrow,
Robin
