Vintage Halloween

Every Halloween I dig out a few items passed on to me from my mother.

Things I remember from my childhood.

Items that make me smile.

Simple bits of cardboard in Halloween shapes.

Silly some would say.  To me, not so silly.

They are a prized possession.  They bring back memories.  They make memories.

They are cherished.

They are hung throughout the house on bedroom doors and kitchen cabinet doors.

The scheming and negotiations begin as the girls pick favorites for their bedroom door.

The process makes me smile.  I remember back to a time my siblings and I would do the same exact thing.

And I smile!

Finishing Up My Halloween Decor

This morning I put the finishing touches on my Halloween decorations.

I wanted to add something a little festive to my bedroom.  Since this years obsession is with black cats I painted up a quick cat silhouette on a cupboard door I had in the garage.

After adding a few white pumpkins, two lanterns and some leftover leaves I'm liking the look.

Here's a close-up of the cat painting.
She turned out cute don't you think?

How about you.
Are you finished with your Halloween decorations?

October 27, 2010

I've been having a busy, busy week.  I just can't believe that it is Wednesday already!

The weather has turned cold, rainy and windy - very windy.

I've been snuggled up inside working on all the projects and cleaning that I have been putting off as I scrambled to finish outside projects before the cold weather arrived.

I was able to finish up a few Halloween decorations.  So very proud of myself to have it all finished before the 31st.

Hope you all are having a great week,

until tomorrow,

Robin

Organized Inspiration

I'm a magazine-aholic. . .

I'm a blog-aholic . . .

I'm constantly clipping images out of magazines and adding blog posts to my favorites lists.

For years I've kept a inspiration notebook filled with magazine clippings of images I'm drawn to.
I'm sure many of you do something similar.
But what do you do with all your online finds?

A while back, I started organizing them by using Tumblr.

A quick post highlighting my favorites with a link to the original blog post and I've got an easy way to keep track of all the things I'd like to remember.

No more trying to remember where I saw something or who posted what!

I've added a button to my side bar if you'd like to have a look at some of my favorite things.
Or you can click here

Hope you have a great day,

Robin

A Touch Of Halloween

The past couple of days I've been slowing adding touches of Halloween around my home.

I find that every Halloween I'm drawn to a slightly different decorating scheme.

Last year it was bats and spiders.

This year it's black cats.

To add touch of Halloween to my kitchen I thought a cat silhouette would be a good addition.

After finding an image, I traced it out onto black scrapbook paper.  Next I cut it out and added it to a basic white plate using masking tape to attach it.

Here's the before,

And After,

I love how simple this project is.

What do you think?
Will you be adding a few silhouettes of your own to your home?

Until tomorrow,

Robin

Revamping Candlesticks

Here's a super quick project.

Take inexpensive brass candlestick picked up at thrift stores or garage sales.

Spray paint them your favorite color.

Instantly you have new candlesticks.

I'll be using mine in the family room to add a Halloween display.

Have a snappy day,

Robin

I'm Crushing on . . .

I recently discovered their online shop and I'm telling you I'm in love with
VERY. SINGLE. PRODUCT!

They have an amazing range of products from industrial type lamps to vintage children's toys.

Here are some of my favorites. . .

A cast iron school bell - AMAZING!

vintage draw pulls
*sigh*

I'm sure I could make a spot for this little lamp.

How fun are these!
I'm pretty sure my brother use to play with a car exactly like the red car on the right!
Hmmm, wonder if mom still has it packed away somewhere.

So, go check them out . . .

I bet you'll be crushing too!

Until tomorrow,
Robin

Mini Pumkins and a Lantern

Good Morning!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

The girls and I enjoyed an impromptu camping trip with grandma and grandpa.  I'm beginning to think I prefer camping in the fall over camping during the summer.

The days are crisp, the campfires are so cozy and woods are beautiful.

A very enjoyable experience.

Over the weekend,
Mom gave me a bag full of mini pumpkins from her garden.
Instantly I knew exactly how I would use them.

This morning I gathered up a few items.

..pumpkins..
..a lantern..
..a enamelware washbasin..
..faux leaves..
..faux berries..

and put together this...

In order to prop up the pumpkins and lantern, I scrounged around the garage for scrap pieces of wood to make a platform.  I cut them to size and attached them to look like this (not too pretty, but very functional)

After cutting the top piece to mimic the shape of the enamelware this is what it looks like placed inside.

Next it was just a matter of placing the lantern and adding the pumpkins.

To fill the spaces between pumpkins, I just tucked in the leaves and berries.

Now my kitchen window as a little autumn farmhouse flare.

Country Home Magazine

After looking and looking I finally was able to get my hands on the
newest issue of Country Home Magazine.

I looked at Barnes&Noble and Target with no luck - - but Walmart had it!  Why is that, does anyone know?

Anyhoo, you can bet I was excited to have my own copy.
Sadly, time has not permitted me to sit down, undisturbed for some serious one on one time.

After flipping through the magazine and a few things have jumped out at me.
Thought it would be fun to share with you.

I adore this shelf in the kitchen.
It looks very easy to duplicate, if only I had the wall space  **sigh**

Love this cluster of mismatched pumpkins . . .

OH. MY!
Do you see that swoon-worth lantern!
Surrounded by fall leaves and pumpkins,
she's AMAZING!

So how about you?
Are you a proud owner for your own copy of the magazine!
If so, what's your fav's?

Until tomorrow,
Robin

Junk Bonanza Finds

It's been two weeks since I had the privilege to attend Junk Bonanza.
I still haven't showed off my fun finds.

I've been waiting . . .
hoping to find the time to decorate with a few of the items in order to have pretty pictures for you all to look at.

With cold weather creeping closer and closer, I've been spending my time in a near panicked state of frenzied house work.  Hoping I'll be able to finish projects I've put off all summer before the cold weather decides to stick around for good.

Anyhooooo, please forgive the photos . . .

First off I picked up a white platter with a cute scalloped edge and a chipped, stained cream pitcher.
Both are a little scuffed and stained but I'm cool with that.

Found this little hotel bell to add to my collection.

Also found this delightfully scratched and rusty black metal box.

Also picked up this patch - I like that it was such a great color of red.
It will be showing up in a upcoming sewing project.

Next I found a few black and white photos of buildings.  I enjoyed their petite size and thought they would be great either grouped together or alone.
(grrr, blogger keeps flipping it sideways - sorry)

And finally, the best find of the day. . .

this one takes me back . . .

back to 1980 . . .

and the little brown house where so many of my childhood memories were made . . .

On second street . . .

I plan to hang it in my kitchen,
but for now she sits on the shelf in my dinning room making me smile each time I pass by.

So there you go.  Great finds from a fun event.

Have a snappy day,

Robin
