From The Garden {6}

This week is all about the Phlox.

One of my all time favorite flowers and has been since I started gardening.

I have ten different plants sprinkles throughout my garden and every year while in full bloom I always wonder why I don't have more!

Even though the garden has been neglected for most of the month of July, these beauties can take care of themselves.

Used as a cut flower the, the scent is amazing and fills the room!

How sweet they are poking through the fence!

If you don't have a few of these beauties in your garden, I strongly recommend you rush to your nearest garden store and pick some up.

I'm I alone in my Phlox obsession or do they hold a special place in your garden?

Quick Project

Busy, Busy, Busy,
That's what I am.

I'm sure I'm not the only one being run ragged by summer.

The past few days the garden has been requiring all my extra time.
I was able to work in a quick sewing project.

I picked up a grain sack last year on my trip to Junk Bonanza and it's been sitting around ever since patiently awaiting by attention.

Love how it turned out and the color match my living room perfectly.

I even like the back side.

Quick, easy projects are the best!

So what been keeping you busy?

Fourth Of July Photo Shoot

Are you like me, constantly taking photos of your kids?

Most of them are hit or miss in the quality department.

A professional photographer I am not.

Nor do I have a fancy camera, just a point and click type.  I rely mostly on photo editing to do all the heavy lifting.

I'm in awe of all the fabulous photographers here in blogland.  While browsing through their amazing examples I've realized I'm drawn to photos with rustic backgrounds.

Determined to attempt to try my hand at it, this Fourth of July I rounded up the girls and we had a mini-photo shoot.

I chose an old barn as my background.  It's next to my parents home and you may remember is from this post.

I happily snapped pictures, then rushed home to edit them with Picnik.

The result?

Not too shabby - - Take a look. . .

Hayward Flea Market

The families annual trip to Hayward WI is always much anticipated for two reasons . . .

#1  - It marks the beginning of summer break and camping season

and

#2  - the Hayward Flea Market!!!!!!!!

Every Monday from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Hayward hosts a flea market at the hockey arena.  Two arena's filled to the brim with vintage goodies (ooooh, I just got goose bumps - it's that fabulous).

I look forward to it each year.  Two weeks ahead of time instead of making packing lists for camping, you'll find me revising my wish list! (I'm easily sidetracked when faced with so much fabulous-ness - - a list is a MUST)

By the time we finally arrive, set up the camper and have a ice cold Pepsi to reward ourselves I've worked myself up into a tizzy of excitement!  You'd think I was a five year-old going to Disney World for the first time - - IT'S. THAT. BAD.

Bright and early Monday morning, my wish list in a death grip, we headed into town to the Flea Market!

I was not disappointed!

I had two items at the top of my list that I was hoping against hope that I would be able to find.
#1:  A vintage fan
#2:  A vintage clock

I didn't even make it inside before I found this bad-boy !!!!

Can you believe I snatched it up for $5 dollars!
Oh my, this is going to be a great day I thought to myself as I skipped from booth to booth - - OK, not really - - I was very well behaved - - I promise!  I was only skipping on the inside!  Didn't want to embarrass my sister (she's a newbie to flea markets)

Wish list item number two jumped into my market bag five minutes later.  I not only found one vintage clock, I found two sitting side by side looking oh so lovely.

A black one.

A blue one.

Ms. Blue is a little more beat up and her glass likes to slip around a bit, but I don't care - I love her anyway!

Did you notice the small, black metal box holding up the black clock?  Yup, it's another flea market find that thrilled me. I love it's petite size and it's chippy paint.

Also found a few of these. . .

And one of those . . .

I have to thank my sister for this next find!
**sigh**
So. Very. SWOON WORTHY!
Love it's color, Love it's retro industrial goodness.
My sister found it, tracked me down, and dragged me across the arena to show me; demanding me to buy it. Not too shabby for a newbie!  (she has real potential don't ya think?)
So there you have it!
This Flea Market Loving Junkie had a great day.
I did the happy dance ALL THE WAY HOME!

Camper Quilt

In an effort to use up my large stash of leftover fabric, I decided yesterday to make a quick scrap quilt for the camper.

I began by cutting the fabric into strips four inches wide.  Next I pulled out my sewing machine and with no particular order started sewing the strips together until they reached the length I wanted.  After pressing the seams, each strip was sewn together one after the other to form the quilt top.

I decided against using any batting.  Instead I simply sewed the quilt top to a twin size fleece blanket.
I laid the blanket, right side up on the floor - - added the quilt top, right side down on top of the blanket  -- then sewed it all together leaving an opening to flip it right side out.  Closed up the opening and ran a running stitch around the whole quilt about an inch inside the edge.  To finish it off I ran three running stitched down the middle of the quilt to hold the layers together better.

That's it.
Super easy quilt, although a little time consuming with all the fabric cutting.  I perfect way to use up bits and pieces of fabric.

There is the quilt in all it's glory.

Hope you all have a great day.  It's unbearably humid here, a great day to stay inside and do a little sewing.

Talk to you soon,
Robin

A Little Red, White and Blue

I took the time this morning to spread a little red, white and blue around the house.
Fourth of July always seems to sneak up on me and despite my good intentions decorations rarely make their way out of storage.  Which completely baffles me since I love decorating with Old Glory colors.

Here's a favorite of mine.
A vintage patriotic postcard with a postmark date of 1911.
(sorry about the blurry photo - camera's having a bad photo day - grrrrr)

Have a great day,

Robin
